About $110.

We have a 1200 square foot house with CAC. I was home all summer with the AC on and I cook regularly.

That really doesn't sound right at all to me. We just got ours and it was only $140, we have a house and 3 AC's going this summer. Granted not during the day but when we are home. I would call them again.

Good luck

I would ask when the tenants befor you moved out...If there was use of the electric by someone BEFORE you moved in ...that would be sent your way...it happened to one of my dad's tenants.

Also...do they estimate your bill? Or is someone coming out there and reading the meter?

Princessrachel.... why don't you post how much you are being charged per KwH and how many KwHs you used that month and we can compare.

Well, THIS is the problem. They are trying to tell us that we are using THREE times as much KwHs than anyone else in the complex! And we seriously shut EVERYTHIGN off all of the time. So they told us to check our thermostat because if it is set to anything under 78 degrees, then that's a problem. Well, problem number one comes in that our thermostat for the central a/c has NO numbers on it, just the hi/low/off buttons. Then, on the inside, JT opened it up, there is a mercury sensor that says 68 degrees. So our thermostat is set to sit on 68 degrees, and so that cost of it being so low is costing us over a 100% more a month than we SHOULD be paying. The complex refuses to replace our thermostat, even though it is ANCIENT and is missing a sensor. So the missing sensor is the problem here. We had NO idea a sensor was missing, and LIPA told us that if there a sensor missing or unplugged, it will make the meter spin constantly like we are using the heat and a/c, even if it's off!
Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I am SOOOOOO upset, I can't even begin to tell you. This is the fault of the complex for never changing the f-ing thermostat since 1989, when it says it was installed. And now I have a 1000 dollar LIPA bill that I am stuck paying. I cannot afford this.
I want to take the thermostat off and put in a new one, but I don't know if that will even help.Chat Icon I'm so upset.

Rachel...do you have access to ur circuit breakers. If you do shut everything off and see if your meter is still running. If it is still running when everything in your house is off someone else is using ur electricity and is stealing from you.

Ours ranges from 45 - 75. Depends on how many times a month we run the dishwasher vs. just doing the dishes ourselves

Re: Electric Bill question. how much do you pay?

Anywhere from about $140 to $450, depending on the time of year, but we have a 2 story house and a basement apartment.

Yes, we need to try this. The MAIN problem is there's no access to the meters. They are in a locked room, and no one seems to be responding from the complex when we call to have the room unlockedChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

We normally pay around 50-70 dollars. In the summer, when my husband is air-conditioned crazy, we pay close to 200 dollars. We live in a co-op.

Re: Electric Bill question. how much do you pay?

Our electric is about $220 a month but we use our electric for heat and central air. We do not have gas or oil, everything is electric.

If you are in an apartment I would have them come and check the meters. In our old apartment we got a bill for $400 in the dead of winter (plus we paid gas) and I was fuming. The reasoning they gave was that the whole complex was on one meter and they split the bill by how many bedrooms you had. Totally unacceptable and we left shortly after.

Check with your rental office and see their policy.

Okay... these people with the bills under or around $100 - do you live in a house or an apt/condo?? I am shocked at these prices!

We are on balanced billing, in a 2000 sq ft house, with CAC and our bill is $240/month. I had DH call LIPA the other day and they said that our bill is correct but I think it sounds WAY too high - especially after reading this! Chat Icon

ETA: the sq ftage was wrong
