Re: elevated lead level
I know someone who had this happen, it had to do with the apartment they were living in, the old pipes and using tap water. I dont know much else though.
Do you use tap water? I wonder why this could happen unless someone was using tap water.

Re: elevated lead level
We had a "slightly" elevated one at DS's 1 yr test! IIRC his level came back at 9. The docs said most babies will come in at the 2-4 range. We did move into an apartment on the second floor of an older house, so there were a LOT of recent renovations done... I'm sure part of his # is attributable to lead dust flying around here. I make sure to damp mop the floors and walls FREQUENTLY to cut down on this now. Also my husband works with glass, much of it is LEADED so I make him change immediately when he gets home, before he even touches the baby, and his work clothes get laundered separately. The docs also had Quest redo the test, sometimes the level is elevated due to a simple calibration error on the machine, did yours ask for a retest? How high was the number?? I looked up everything I could find, I think at around "20" the city gets involved and will send an inspector to see if a remediation is required...
Try not to freak out there are loads of resources to help!!!

Re: elevated lead level
I don't use tap water for drinking. My house was totally renovated in 2006. I am nervous it could be from my sons toys? She has to go to the dr to have blood drawn and I am asking if I should be tested because I bf still. I guess I will have answers once I go to the dr with her.

Ok t hink back.
When you were pg, at first, they would have tested your lead level. See if you can get those records. What kind of water do you drink? Bottled, tap? Esp since you BF. That's where I would start in my thoughts anyway.
She plays with your sons toys? Does she put them in her mouth? What about her crib? Is it painted, does she bite on it?
It may be much more complicated than this but this is just what is coming to my mind, where my first thoughts would go.

My dd number was a 5. According to our dr, the cutoff in NY is much lower, most states it is 10 and they do not worry unless the numbers are above 20. I can not wait to get her retest done and know for sure. The dept of health sends a letter and it is crazy how you can possibly get lead coming into your home!

How does it suggest it comes in, if not already there?
I was also thinking of toys and books. I know alot of babies like to chew on books, and often books can contain lead. I am sorry you are going through this! It would have me very upset too.
Sounds like hers was low enough that they aren't panicking about it, thank God.

Re: elevated lead level
It happened to a friend of mine. I do not think they ever figured out why, except maybe some of his toys had lead in them.

hmm, i dont remember anything about me and lead levels during pregnancy...so i guess if there was an issue they would have told me. I dont drink anything accept bottled water and the same goes for the kids. his toys she plays with, we went through all his thomas trains and threw most of them out. her crib she doesnt bite. the letter from the dept of heath told us not to wear shoes in the house, wash our hands constantly....ugh i cant wait to know!

Re: elevated lead level
My DD's level came back at 5 also... they re-did the test (this time drawing blood from the arm rather than a finger prick), and it came back at 1. The 5 was an inaccurate result, and the doc told me that it happens sometimes with finger prick tests.

I am so hoping that is the case. My son had an issue when he went for pre-surgical testing in November and when they repeated the tests it showed the first test was inaccurate.
