Elevator Etiquette...poll

So I got in the elevator this morning and there were about 6 people in there. One man turns around and stares at each and every one of us for the entire elevator ride, looking all of us up and down.

This happens every so often, someone gets in the elevator and just stares and stares...

Isn't this rude? I mean I wouldn't get in an elevator and stare at the other person in there the whole ride.

Just wondering what you all thing...isn't there some kind of elevator etiquette that says you should just look straight ahead? or look at the numbers?

Re: Elevator Etiquette...poll

I don't think that there is an actual elevator etiquette, but I find it absolutely annoying when people stare. I, certainly don't do it!

I think it's ok to look at whoever, whenever. What's more rude to me is when someone is all in your business (conversation with a co-worker, looking over your shoulder at your phone/papers/blackberry, etc).

This is one of my biggest PEEVES about working in my building. We share a building with Giorgio Armani. So we have alot of "beautiful people" Chat Icon Chat Icon who share the elevators with us. These girls/guys are dressed to the nines EVERYDAY. All designer stuff. All Armani stuff. They STARE at us (meaning the people in my company) ALL THE TIME and check out what we're wearing. It's ridiculous.

YES that's right sweetheart, I'm wearing GAP!!!! Stop looking at my clothes and bag!!! AAAAGGGHHHHH!

Thank goodness I got a new job! Chat Icon

ETA: though I do admit I DO stare when the Armani models are in the elevator with me Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Agreed..

And while we on the topic of elevator etiquette, I also HATE when there are is only 1 or 2 other people in the elevator with you, but yet they have to STAND RIGHT ON TOP OF YOU instead of spreading out..

AND stop STARING !! Chat Icon

Oh yeah and finally - incessantly hitting "door close" or "door open" is NOT going to make the doors open/close any quicker!! Chat IconChat Icon

Ooo see in my building those buttons DO work. I like to get the spot next to the buttons so I can press door close so we get down quicker. I can't stand when people don't press the button and it takes the door forever to close.

Ahh well since you are in the Armani building I guess they have you hooked up better than they do here Chat Icon.. I swear in our building those buttons mean NADA!!

And I don't object to anyone hitting them .. but I'm talking about the people who will hit they INCESSANTLY as if hitting them 10x is going to make them work quicker than 1x ..

OR even better.. when you have already hit the "up" or "down" button in the lobby or on your floor.. and its LIT UP .. but someone HAS to come and hit the button AGAIN, as if that makes a difference. Uh DUH but the button is already hit, the elevator will come up/down in due course... Chat Icon

Yes I have elevator issues - !! Chat Icon

See, I don't like it when people get in and make NO Eye contact or say something nice like Good Morning.

We have a fairly small building and people ignore each other!!

Now, there's definitely a middle ground between ignoring and STARING though!!

I would stick out my tongue at him next time!! Chat Icon

At an old job we had little TV screens that showed CNN... I miss that. It was very nice and it made the elevator pleasant. Especially since we were on the 44th floor!

Ooh we have that in our elevators... it definitely helps with the 'staring' problem. Its got all sorts of fun/strange facts, the weather, news flashes, etc..

I swear one day the TV screen was down and NOONE knew what to do with themselves Chat Icon

Now we just have mirrors. So we have to fight with the Armani people to get mirror time to fix our hair Chat Icon

Re: Elevator Etiquette...poll

Our elevators, in general, are crap.

You would think being that its the Chrylser Building and being a land mark and all that they would work better -but they dont. We get stuck in them all the time. And forget about it moving if you have more then 8 people in it...

I got stuck once alone and had to call down to the lobby and they were like "Hello, can we help you?" I said "Im stuck in the elevator, can you get my out?" and they said "We'll try to work on that" Chat Icon Chat Icon

Hey - wanna see what else I do when Im in the elevators...here are some pics...LOL I'm a camera freak...

So funny about the Chrysler Bldg though.. one of my closest friends use to work in that building and she always said the SAME THING - she was CONSTANTLY getting stuck in the elevators, it was more of a surprise when she didn't get stuck Chat Icon Chat Icon

Same here, the buttons in my building work too! Otherwise, it takes forever for the door to close.
