Elliptical machine question

Elliptical machine question
When you are on this machine do you follow the directions on the screen. When I enter my age and weight the machine calculates my heart rate. Throughout my work out it will tell me to slow down to reach target heart rate.
Should I slow down? Last night I was on for an hour and felt like I could have gone a lot faster than it wanted me to.

I never trust those things. If you are in good health, your body will tell you when you are over-exerting yourself.

yeah- how does it know your heart rate? Mine has the little finger pads that measures it- but it always tell me I am "above" even though I feel like I am not over-exerting myself
