Empire carpet coming tonight...
They are coming to do a free in-home estimate. We desperately need new carpet in the guest room - which will be the baby's room, entryway stairs and our master (not as necessary as the other two).
Did anyone use them? If we go to HD or Lowes after we meet with them and find a lower price, do they match?
On their website it says they are having a 60% off sale, not sure on what though so hopefully we can take advantage of that!

I heard that Empire will match HD - but I didn't hear that first hand from them...
I would be interested to hear how you make out though.
I too will be having carpet installed once we close... I figured I would go to HD, pick out carpet, have them measure ($35.00 fee which deducted if you use them to install)
Get a quote and approx install date...
Then call Empire to come for an estimate and see if they can match the price...

I used them a few years ago and the price was great. I called them recently and they were completely outrageous! I got a much better quality carpet at less than 1/2 the price installed from my local carpet store (Milburn) I just picked from the remnants

I used empire in November. They were very good. Nice products BUT the price was much higher then HD in the quote. I had HD prices and they matched it on the spot. Can you get to HD before they come tonight?? Just to so you can be prepared?

If possible I would price out HD and Lowes FIRST. The Empire sales person REALLY wants to make the deal on the first visit.
The biggest advise I can give is NEGOTIATE!!!! We were quoted like $3400 for 4 bedrooms, hallway and stairs. I told the guy sorry I only want to spend a max of $2500 and he agreed to that price immediatly!! So there is room to negotiate alot!

NEGOTIATE!! They were definitely more expensive than when I went local (Carpet one). I have no idea if I am right or not, but I kind of get the feeling that they are really like a general contractor. Like Empire gets the sale, but then a local carpet place really does the work. Just my own observation, I have no idea if I am right.

UPDATE: Well I guess it's meant to be that we should go look at HD and Lowes first b/c Empire just called and they had to cancel and reschedule for Monday! Off to HD and Lowes this weekend...

We used them in 2007 when we bought our home. We negotiated with the guy when he came and got a great price!!!
