Entertainment for 1st bday, and a food q too
I am thinking of using one of the guys from the local music classes, or we also have a local puppet show.
I decdided to do a big party since we didnt do a baby naming, etc. and a lot of people haven;t seen Sasha since she was a newborn, etc.
Anyway-- I plan to have kids from babies up to about 4 years old. When I bring her to the puppet show in town (there are "classes" multiple times a week), and there are older kids there-- they trample the crawling babies-- but the shows are SO cute. I just don't want Sasha to not *get* the most out of the show, if the older kids are pushing to get to the puppets. KWIM?
Anyone have any insight? I know I need to have something-- because for the amount of people, I will probably need to do it in a raw space.
Also-- what kind of food do you serve for the kids at a 1st bday?

I got an entertainer/clown (not a scary clown though,....fun clown) from twinkletown. The kids, all ages, loved her, even the adults did.
We did it at a restaurant so I can't help you with food...

We had DS's party at a Knights of Columbus. I went to a deli and had them cater the food. We had chicken fingers, penne ala vodka, chicken, steak pizziaola, and a hero. We also hired Elmo and a nonscary clown to entertain. They came with cotton candy as well. They performed for an hour and did face painting. limbo, magic tricks, etc and then had picture time.

We used Twinkletown too but opted for the tattoos because most of the kids we had were too young to keep face paint neat.
As far as food goes, we had heroes, penne a la vodka and ziti and chicken fingers. Word of advice - if you go the route of chicken fingers, adults will eat them too so you may wish to order a drop more.

Re: Entertainment for 1st bday, and a food q too
I think we decided we're going to do her party at home (I have the space, and quite frankly, we had a HUGE baby naming so I don't want to go overboard).
I'm going to serve deli platters most likely, maybe a hot dish or two as well. I'll have some kid friendly food too.
As far as entertainment, I think I'm going to be copying a friend of mine and hiring Music Together to come do a music session with the kids.
Most of Samantha's "friends" are 1 year and younger, and her cousins range from 10 months old - 10 years old. So it should appeal to the masses.

Re: Entertainment for 1st bday, and a food q too
We're doing a charachter as well as a non scary clown with a cotton candy machine and face painiting...We don't have a lot of kids coming actually bc a lot of our friends don't have kids yet and the ones that do have older ones, so we're having a big mix of ages...As for food, we're doing it in the community room of my MIL's building so we're getting it catered by a deli, with a a few party bages, side salads, fruit, cookies etc...we didn't want hot, bc we're getting it catered by a place by us in LI and the party is in BK so we didn't think that would work out to well, plus my over anal DH was frightened that one of the kids would get at the hot chafing dishes the burner underneath and didn't want to be responsible for it....
