Entry Doors

We need to start looking for a front door and I was hoping you all could help me with a few things =)

- Where did you get yours?
- What brand?
- What material - wood, fiberglass, steel?
- What did you pay for the door...and then for installation?

Feel free to post pictures......thanks!!

Re: Entry Doors

Very nice! Wow, I had no idea it could cost that much! LOL That said, we're not getting sidelights or a storm door...

Thank you for the site....

Re: Entry Doors

Just a door, would cost at least half. My neighbors behind me also used our company for their front door. Theirs had no glass, no storm door, no sidelights, etc...cost about 1,500.

Re: Entry Doors

We got it at Home Depot back on early 2001. Paid $1400 and that included the door, sidelights, and stormdoor, as well as installation. It's fiberglass, and DH gives it a coat of paint every few years because its white and needs to look fresh.

After (before storm door installation):

Also, just so you know, standard sized doors would be much cheaper than custom sized doors so keep that in mind.

Re: Entry Doors

We're getting together with our builder tomorrow, so hopefully I can get an idea of how much an entry door will cost us.

Attached is a photo of the door we're interested in.

I'll keep you posted!

(We're also not doing a storm door.)

Re: Entry Doors

Thanks for the replies.

I'm hoping the door is a standard fit...though I'm not going to hold my breath since nothing in the house seems to be standard size (windows, interior doors).

Our house is brick and while DH wants a sidelight...I'm not keen on cutting into brick.

Anyone have brick and cut into it? Did it cost more? (I ask b/c an electrician we got a quote from charged us a lot more b/c the house is brick and wants to charge us a whole lot more b/c our ceilings are plaster Chat Icon - just wondering if this was standard charging practices.)

Re: Entry Doors

I personally agree with you. I would NOT cut into brick. And if you wanted to do that, it would be a lot more costly and many installers might not be the best for that job.....

i would not do it.

Colleen,
if you're interested in getting just quotes on the door, you should head over to Kleet. They carry Masonite (low end), Therma-Tru (mid-tier) and Jeld-Wen (higher end) and others. They priced out a couple doors for us. Obviously they can't give you an exact quote on labor, but those guys may have some insight.

We have almost the same exact door except in a brown tone that the previous owners installed but I hate it!

It's very pretty but I hate how you can see in the house. Some of the glass is marbled, but the glass in the middle is clear so you can see right in. I also don't like the fact that there is only one lock on the door.

If doors werent so expensive we would replace it very soon! Maybe next year.

This is a really bad pic of it open. I dont have any with it closed.

Just a suggestion....

we have a brand new door that I posted pics of. We chose it for a few reasons, but very small sections of it you can see thru pretty clearly. So what I did was bought frosted contact paper (removable) and cut to shape the small sections that you can see in though and put the froxted contact on the inside.
You can barely tell I did this on this inside, it is removable if I dont like it anymore, and only distorts the view from outside, doesnt block the light.

Sounds cheesy....on my beautiful door, but you can barely tell and it worked out great! If that is your main reason to get rid of a good door, give it a try.

Just a suggestion

Thanks - I was actually thinking about doing that but wondered how it would look. I'll try it! Contact paper is a lot cheaper than a new door Chat Icon
