Epstein Barr updated
Anyone have any experience with this? I had mono 3 years ago. 2 weeks ago I started feeling really run down and tired. Since Monday my throat, glands, and head have been hurting. I have been achy and really, really, run down and tired. I went to the doctor and he took a bloodtest. He called me yesterday to tell me that the Epstein Barr levels are elevated. He said that I have to let it run its course. Meanwhile I feel awful....I am so sick He started me on antibiotics Monday but didnt think that it would help...he was right...it didnt do a thing.
Is it normal to have "flare ups" of Epstein Barr at times? its awful
Update: Went to the doc again today because my ear hurts and I can't hear anything out of that ear. He got the rest of my bloodwork...mono test came back positive I am so tired it hurts I am home from work for at least 2 weeks This is awful

Re: Epstein Barr
My mother was diagnosed with Epstein Barr years ago. She had mono when she was a kid. Yes, it's very normal to have flare ups. Some day she's fine and other days she is EXTREMELY exhausted and run down. Hope you feel better

Re: Epstein Barr
yeah if you've had mono in the past, you can definitely have flareups of the virus. Ugh

Yes, this happens to me too. I had mono about 10 years ago and since then I do have flareups of Epstein Barr. I find it happens when Im in really stressful situations for long periods of time (i.e. when my dad got sick) But one thing that really does help is vitamin B complex. Epstein Barr is actually a symptom of depleted B vitamins. You can get the vitamin over the counter at GNC or your dr can prescribe a shot of it that will last a few weeks. Hope you're feeling better.. it's so hard to function when you can't get out of bed!

Re: Epstein Barr
Yes, its very normal. I was told I had it back in like 2005 I think. I was feeling way more tired than normal. and for someone who was in their mid 20's it didnt seem right.
I was never diagnosed with having mono, but the dr said often times Strep can be misdiagnosed for Mono. the last time I had strep I was in college, and it was bad. threw me for a loop for about 2 weeks. So i think it was probably Mono and not strep.
the dr. i was seeing then told me there isnt much I can do except take extra B vitamins, but it usually has to run its course.
In extreme cases like DH's aunt many years ago, she was bed ridden for 6 months. They thought it was lyme's disease at first, but it was Epstein Barr Virus.
Start taking daily vitamins, add a B vitamin to it, and maybe talk to your dr. about getting B-12 shots regularly to help with the fatigue. I think im going through a bout of it now, b/c the exhaustion is these days is really bad.

Re: Epstein Barr updated
I had it my senior year of HS, and missed a month of school. Even taking a shower made me tired, I spent a lot of time in bed. And then even once I was better I got sick with other things, colds, UTI, etc in the weeks after.
