Ever cry at work?

I don't mean crying because something tragic happened in your life like a death or something, but crying because you are so stressed out or frusrated over work stuff that you just break down?

I try not to let this happen too often but sometimes I just can't stop it and it's soooo embarrasing.

I just had it happen now... in front of someone no less. I felt like such an azz. And I work with mainly men so I just feel like they must look at me like the weak little weepy female. But I was just so frustrated with so much today- and it's been building for months now- and I started talking about it to this guy who came by my desk and next thing you know I'm crying.
Chat Icon

I felt bad for him too because I can tell he didn't know what to do. He just kind of stood there and finally pulled up a chair to sit next to me while I weeped like an a-hole. Chat Icon

Luckily he and I are on more of a friendly basis and socialize after work etc, but still--- soooo embarrasing.

PMS isn't helping either- that's for sure.

So I'm curious- have you ever just broke down at work??

I definitely have. I work with mainly women and we all have at least one time. Our boss is a guy, and he never knows what to do Chat Icon It happens. If any guy think we are weak for crying, have them deliver a baby and then see how weak we are! Chat Icon

Re: Ever cry at work?

I've wanted to, but I never have. I've raised my voice and gotten frustrated and extremely bittchy but never cried.

It has but in the restroom or when I was not around too many people.

I talked myself off the ledge and got myself together.

It's rough. Sorry you had that experience.Chat Icon

Re: Ever cry at work?

I have cried here a zillion times but three times were an emotional reaction to a work situation.

One day last week I was a litte teary out of sheer frustration with a new computer system.

Once a couple of years ago I just about broke down talking to our independent auditors - my voice cracked & got teary. He knew about all the stress/changes and I was pretty friendly with him so I didn't feel like a complete loser. Chat Icon

And after my first review I got the crappiest raise - I was angry and insulted so I cried then too.

What can you do? We're human.

A few years ago, my old boss was tellking me that he was interviewing at different companies. We had a really close working relationship and wanted me to know where he was headed. It made me sad & I cried a bit over it privately. But the next day he came to me to apologize for telling me the way he did and that HE got choked up telling me about leaving. So men can get emotional too.

Re: Ever cry at work?

I just started a new job about 2 weeks ago. The first week was ROUGH because no one was training me and I was bored and in the middle of my . cycle -- and BAM! I got a little choked up about 3x that first week.

Years ago, at my 2nd job after college, a director at the company, not my boss but the boss of another dept that I worked with a lot, said some pretty harsh things to me (cannot remember what they were now, but it had something to do with something I did wrong, but it wasn't a BIG screw up, I know that) and I was VERY upset. I told my boss about it and cried to her - and she was VERY nice and actually yelled at the guy who yelled at me and made him apologize. Last thing I wanted to do was to go back in his office after the things he said - I was embarrassed thinking that my boss told him I was upset, even though he was in the wrong - but in the end it was fine.

Once, about 10 years ago when I first started and some jerk said some really crappy things to me. I went to the ladies room and cried.

That was the first and last time. I never even get the urge-I'm all business. Stone. Cold. Heartless.Chat Icon

I've teared up and my voice has cracked but so far I've managed to keep the full water works till after I left. It's quite a challenge to drive home like that. Chat Icon

I am a crier- I cry about once a day BUT if I cry at work, I always make it to the bathroom first so no one has ever seen me.

Re: Ever cry at work?

Twice at my old job. Once nobody saw, and once it was in front of a sympathetic coworker.

Re: Ever cry at work?

OMG Yes and I was mortified. It actually happened just a few weeks ago. I am a social worker and my particular case load is really challenging and stressful. I got to my breaking point and luckily the day it happened was on a Friday so I didn’t have to go back to work the next day. But anyway I’m sorry that you are having a rough day.Chat Icon

Re: Ever cry at work?

Oh yes. I try to close my office door when it happens. But one time it happened while talking to a coworker, mid-sentence and my voice just cracked and the tears came. I just excused myself from the room and had it out in my office. Sometiems you just can't help it! Tomorrow will be better! Chat Icon

Re: Ever cry at work?

Twice. Thankfully at two different jobs. If I cried at the same place I would be mortified since two guys saw me.
