Ew! Did you see the scene in AC moore today?
There was a mom whose kid was having such a temper tatrum at the store today...all because she wanted some crazy crayola thing she didn't need.
She decided to not care what people think and let her kid just cry - and her kid CRIED....
so hard that she puked red vomit ALL over the register area...like 5 times. (she had strawberries for breakfast).
what a bad, bad, mom...
what? NO...that wasn't ME...who told you that???
.....Excuse me while I go do laundry.
(oh and I would really really like to thank the random mom who helped me clean up and get myself and T together...she didn't have to do that, but man did she come to the rescue with ZERO hesitation!)

Do you think? I mean really...do they learn from these crazy tantrums or is it just making me look bad when I let her cry?? I know that I have to say no...I dont have a problem with that, but at what point do you let it get to in public places.
I was MORTIFIED that she vomited...It came from no where, it's not like I saw it coming and ignored it.

maybe she already had an upset stomach and the crying just made it worse. Could they actually cry so hard that it would induce vomiting?

Re: Ew! Did you see the scene in AC moore today?
I don't think it makes you look bad that you let her cry. I never think anything about someone letting their kid unless I thought it something where the child was clearly in pain (pain over a broken heart from not getting a crayola toy doesn't count) I feel bad for you more than her (except for the yuckiness of being the one who threw up) but I think you did the right thing. In fact if I ever see someone going through standing there with a screaming kid I usually say "That sounds familiar" or "I feel your pain" just so they don't feel ostracized by people. It's not easy but they learn early what powerful creatures they can be and IMO that's what she (or any child) would learn by having a fit and having you give in to shut her up. So I totally give you props. to the other Mom helping.

I think you just have to stand strong--otherwise, how much stuff would you need to buy to stop public tantrums? And then what kind of a lesson does THAT teach?
You had no way of knowing what the result was going to be. I would have done the same thing.
And do I think she learned a lesson...we have to believe they do learn with each incident, otherwise, what's the point of discipline? I've been there...well, minus the vomit!

SHe has vomited from crying before (its the mucous that bothers her). But never to this extent. She is eating fine now so who knows.

Thank you for the support. I guess I needed it because as I am reading I am tearing up. It was really upsetting and I felt like everyone was just staring at us and judging (except for my hero mom).

Re: Ew! Did you see the scene in AC moore today?
Good for you! What a horrible payback to sticking to your guns and not giving in I think you did the right thing and have found that I haven't been that strong all the time but when I am the lesson is very well learned. My DD would be talking about that incident for weeks.

Good for you for not giving it and for the mommy that helped you out. It's good to see random mommies helping each other.

Re: Ew! Did you see the scene in AC moore today?
I totally think you did the right thing, despite the outcome..(and HOORAY to the Mom who helped out... there should be more Moms like her out there, and less judgmental ones )
So PLEASE do not second guess or feel embarrassed by what happened... you are a great Mom and in the end I think this does teach them a lesson...
Many hugs for your rough day

I totally think you did the right thing, and from one mommy to a spirited child to another, yes, it does work. All too often the process is mortifying for mom, but at the end of the day, if it makes our children into better little human beings, than it's worth it

me too! I was ready to tell you that I didnt think that Mom was "wrong" at all and that i agreed with what she did...its what I would have done too - and I do handle the same type of situations like that,
Im so sorry this happened though.
