Excessed...what now? (NYC)

So today I found out I was excessed and I am wondering what I should do next. Open Market? How do I find out where I will be placed until I find a position? I am on childcare leave for 7 yrs now so I am a bit out of touch.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

They are letting peopel know already?

Yes try open market. Then in late summer they close open market and leave it open for only those who were excessed.

Good luck.

I am certified in El ED, Spe ED and Reading Ed> I worked as a common branches teacher for 7 yrs. :( If switch areas I completely lose my seniority. not that it matters.

At least, with 7 years I think you will be safe if there are layoffs. Also, no one with a special ed license will be laid off. I wonder if you should apply for special ed positions? So many TFA and Fellows are in those jobs and those people are more likely to leave (esp. TFA) so there are always openings. Also, you will not lose your system seniority.
