EXCESSIVE spitting up...reflux??? Please Help!!!
My little guy is almost 3 months old and is EBF. He just seems to spit up ALL THE TIME! He isn't in pain and is gaining weight and sleeps through the night. So these are all positives. So is this something I should be concerned about or is it just a 'laundry problem'? What constitutes reflux?
My pediatrician mentioned starting cereals early since my breastmilk may be too thin in his belly but I am not sure how I feel about this???
He spits up from my breast & when he gets my milk in a bottle. He may even eat, nap, & spit up nmerous times when he wakes up or right after he eats!! I go through tons of outfits & bibs...please help!!!

Re: EXCESSIVE spitting up...reflux??? Please Help!!!
My ped told me that all of DDs spitting up was just a laundry problem since she did not appear to be in pain, was gaining weight and STTN since she was 6 weeks. She always has a bib on her and at almost 11 months, she still spits up occasionally. Sounds like reflux to me!

Re: EXCESSIVE spitting up...reflux??? Please Help!!!
My DD has reflux and spits up no matter what all the time. Since we stopped BF and put her on formula with the added rice starch she's doing better. We were going to try the BM with cereal in a bottle but i had supply issues. With the added rice starch my DD spits up alot less. It doesn't completly go away. But we only go through about 2 outfits and 3 bibs a day as oppossed to 6 outfits and about 12 bibs a day. If you pump and feed the bottle it might be worth it to try adding the cereal to it to thicken it up. good luck

My nephew did this. His outfits and bibs would be soaking wet.....the spit up would just pour out of him...he was on zantac, and she said it did help his reflux.
Both of my boys had reflux. My oldest had borderline pyloric stenosis, but it corrected itself. He would projectile vomit. My youngest had silent reflux, and it was HORRIBLE. They were both on prevacid, because the others didn't work, but I am not too sure how well the prevacid worked either.
I remember my dr telling me once they start standing up and walking, it would get much better (gravity) and that has held true for both of them

Re: EXCESSIVE spitting up...reflux??? Please Help!!!
Are you propping him up when feeding him? My four week old was spitting up quite a bit until I started feeding him propped up and its started to lessen quite a bit - he still spits up but I think its more to do with him taking too much too fast and then when I lift him to burp him it comes back out.
Hope something works

Re: EXCESSIVE spitting up...reflux??? Please Help!!!
DS had reflux. He constantly covered both of us in spit up. He'd spit up hours after a feeding. I had him in bibs 24/7 for months. He's also EBF. He was generally a happy spitter, but would get hysterical if we put him in the crib lying flat. He preferred being upright/on an incline.
The pediatrician prescribed Zantac, but I honestly didn't see much of a difference. He was on Zantac for about 3 or 4 months. I took him off of it at 6 months, which was also when we started solids. By 7 months, I had noticed a huge improvement. Now, at 8 months old, he rarely spits up after a feeding. I don't know if it was the solids or just his digestive system maturing, but he's so much better. I was also hesitant to start cereal early so I just dealt with the spitting up and extra laundry due to that.
