Re: Experts...Sandals Jamaica - Ochos Rios?

jamaica, although poverty stricken outside the resorts(as most of the virgin/carribean islands are) is without a doubt BEAUTIFUL...went to the Beaches resort in Negril w/the fam ages ago...i still remember how pristine the beach was.

I have a friend that stayed at the Ocho Rios resort not too long ago..she loved it & has nothing but raves to say. she already wants to go back!

DH and I went to Sandals, at Dunns River....

and loved, loved, loved it!!!!!!!

we never went to the ocho rios resort bc we heard it was very big and confusing and crowded....but that was from others staying at our resort at Dunns River, a small more cozy/romantic atmosphere...

good luck!!!!!

DH and I stayed at Sandals in Ocho Rios on our HM, we had a good time. We stayed in whatever the cheapest room was, figuring we’re not going to be in the room too much. It was nice, had a balcony that overlooked the main pool. It is bigger than Dunn’s River but we liked that…I guess if you want to be totally secluded, Dunn’s River is the way to go, or a private villa, but we were more social. There are a bunch of restaurants and most were really good. We had a good time there.

I LOVED Ocho Rios. There was construction going on when we went (about 5 yrs ago) and that didn't even faze us.

It has a much bigger beach area than Dunns River but is still very close to the falls.

I recommend it. Oh - we did have an ant infestation in our room. They were all over the bathroom - our soap, the toilet, the tub, the counter - everything! Chat Icon The svc people had to come fog our room every day. Not a big deal to us - they were just ants. We went around signing 'dead ant, dead ant' the whole trip.

DH and I were supposed to go with some friends to Sandals Ochos Rios in 2006 but plans fell through so we met with the TA and we went with Couples Swept Away.

Jamaica is absolutely gorgeous. You'd be right next to Dunn River Falls. I say go for it!

We went there for our honeymoon in summer 2007 and had a great time. We actually stayed on the side not near the ocean. With this, we got a semi private pool (which was actually private since no one was in the villa next to us). We had a single room villa with no butler service, but never had a problem getting reservations or a seat at the pool/beach. I would definitely recommend it. I only wish it wasn't so humid there.

ETA: You do have to take a bus from the airport to resort. They first drop off Sandal's Dunn's River and then Ocho Rios. Many of the reviews I read complained about the bus trip, but by the time we got there almost all of the roads were fully paved and it was a smooth ride. I think it was anywhere between 1-1.5 hours from the airport. Not too bad.
