explain to me how you do it...travel related..

Ive taken Gillian on the plane numerous times but now that she is 1 and out of her rear facing...obviously things get alot heavier. I used to use the snap n go and carry the base.
My dh is not going.
Should I check her big car seat and bring her stroller to the gate?
I really wanted her to use the car seat on the plane but dont know how I would carry all of these things plus security is horrible.
Any tips?

Honestly if your traveling alone I would just keep her on your lap, check the car seat and bring the stroller to the gate.

That worked perfectly for me when I traveled to Orlando when DD was 12 months. Plus don't forget that you can preboard to have extra time to get settled in.

The more "stuff" you have at security the hard it is going to be, especially if your alone.

You have two options either bring a garbage bag to put the car seat in OR ask the guys at the counter for one.Chat Icon

We travel with both seats and two strollers and it si a PITA, but it is doable.

I actually put the car seat on my back, one strap over each arm if I carry one.

This last trip DH carried both carseats and pushed a stroller. I held the diaper bag, our camera bag and pushed a stroller.

People usually help while getting on the plane.

I've been wondering about this lately too. We've traveled alot with DD, but the only time I went by myself, she was still in the infant carrier. Now it's going to be much harder. If you do check the carseat, I'm pretty sure they will put it in a clear plastic bag for you. I've seen them at the baggage belt like that. Or you can buy one of those carrier bags for it. I think I plan on checking the stroller and getting the roller attachment for the carseat and wheeling that to the gate so that DD can sit in that on the plane. The last time we took her on our laps didn't go so well. She is more likely to sleep in her carseat.

(FYI: If you're flying Southwest you can no longer preboard.)

I flew with DD to Orlando a few weeks ago alone. I didn't bring a car seat, but I would check it (they make car seat bags) and bring the stroller to the gate. I gate checked mine and held DD on my lap. It was alot of gear but I tried to pack light.

dont rely on the airline for a bag!!! in orlado they didnt have any Chat Icon

SW lets you sorta preboard. You go after the "A" group (only 45 people so it's no too bad)

Im flying w 2 seats in Feb and will probably bring contractor bags.

ETA: did you buy a seat for her?

My boss recently bought this FAA Approved Harness and LOVED it. She checked her car seat so she didnt have to worry about schlepping it. Good for kids 22-44 lbs.

We just came back from Fla. Southwest no longer lets you preboard and we were in the B group so they let families with children 4 or under board before group B but you still have a group before you....it really stinks Chat Icon I checked DD's carseat and stroller at the gate and purchased her a seat and I am glad I did. I can't imagine having to hold her all of that time. We took Playdoh and a DVD player in our carryon and it worked like a charm.

I checked her car seat in (it was in a car seat bag I borrowed) took her light weight stroller with me so I could wheel her thru the airport. I also took my portable DVD player. She was almost 2 at that time...

I would check the seat, gate check the stroller and just put her in the seat and buckle her up that way. Like someone else said, bring your own bag because sometimes they don't have any.

if you are going solo, I would suggest you buy a seat and get the gogokidz.
we got one for DD and it hooks right onto the britax- that way you have the car seat for traveling- you can check the stroller (i put it in DH's golf bag along with some beach towels) and just roll DC in the car seat.

yes, it's pricy at $80- but if you travel a lot, it's well worth it!

Check the carseat and stroller and everything except your essentials for the plan and put her in a backcarrier. You can now leave kids in soft carriers to go through security. Then get to the gate, take her out, let her run around and then hold her on your lap for the flight.

The Ergo baby carrier is awesome. And you can use it with bigger kids to carry them piggy back. I had Jack (who is 3) in it on my back recently. Its just like a supported piggy back ride. Best baby gear investment!

Yep, this is exactly what I was talking about. That's my plan. I think I'll get a bag for the stroller & check that.

this is what I do. I take the two LATCH hooks and hook them together to make a carrier for me to put it on my shoulder/back.

Correct. You basically use the gogokidz to make the car seat a "stroller"- then you check the stroller.. I find this is easier- I was able to push her in front of me and pull my luggage behind us and then I used a back pack for the carry on diaper bag. It was very very easy.

We are traveling again in March on Southwest- we bought her a seat and are going to use the gogokidz again.

as i said, it is pricy- but I think it is well worth it b/c it does make things so easy- we got so many comments from parents when we used it at the airport.
