exterior paint job - went bad - now what?
i am looking for suggestions on what to do now...
we paid a licensed contractor (suffolk county ny) to prep (power wash, fill holes, sand), prime (oil based), and paint our home (BM 2 coats) last fall...as per our contract.
he power washed, primed three sides (of our four sided house) with an oil based primer, then weeks later returned and applied a water based tinted primer to all 4 sides and one coat of BM paint. We paid him the full price stated on our contract.
The house is now peeling...on the side where oil base was NEVER applied, down to bare wood!
we have been in contact with the painter since may. he has offered nothing in return, other than excuses...
so now what??
I called consumer affairs (the people who licence contractors in suffolk county) and BBB...
any suggestions? I am sick over this as it was a good chunk of change in the first place and looks like even MORE to fix the problems that this contractor created!!
HELP :)

what did consumer affairs and the bbb say? if they didnt respond than I would call the Attorney General's office and lodge a complaint against them and the contractor-- you may also want to talk to an attorney to see what your rights are
sorry that this happened to you

Re: exterior paint job - went bad - now what?
I just filled out the BBB report online today...consumer affairs is sent in via mail and they said it will take 2-3 weeks until I hear back...
i have been trying not to stress, in hopes that the karma police would make right of this situation, but right now I'm not feeling quite as optimistic...

he will loose his license in the county if he does not resolve the issue. Unfortunately it could take a while.

I am so sorry that you have to deal with this.
Since you are not getting any resolution from the contractor, you need to file a judgment at small claims court (file in the county where the contractor lives or has place of business). The first step is to provide the court with a brief description of the incident, the name and address of the defendant and a small filing fee). Small claims court allows you to sue up to $5,000
In the meantime, gather ALL the needed documentation (original contract, canceled checks, pics, times and dates of communication etc...).
The process is lengthy (months and even up to a year to be resolved) but you DESERVE to be compensated.
FM if you want more info in re: to the claims process.

we picked up the small claims info today...we have to fill it out and then they will give us our day to appear.
the contractors final words (via email) was to go ahead and sue him...nice right? so here we are!!

what a jerk! definately save the email for the judge- they might be interested to see that- also once you file, email the court shows like judge judy- they can get you in faster and since they pay the judgements, the contractor may agree to it
