Extra check in today's payroll for me..??? UPDATED
Keep it or speak up? It looks like some sort of bonus. I've been with the company for 8 years and I'm worried that this is a test of my ethics..
Well, I checked with my boss and it's legit; it's my 2nd Qtr bonus that they failed to mention to me that I qualified for!
$3000!!!

Have they missed sending you a paycheck and this is a substitute?
Or if it's not, I would casually ask a coworker about bonuses this year and see if he/she received a similar check in the mail before going to HR.

Speak up - it could be a processing error, it could be unused personal time, it could be a bonus.
They will figure it out one way or the other so you may as well be the one to bring it to their intention. If they figure it out, it will change their opinion of you.

I can assure you the payroll department isn't looking to test ethics because it makes extra work for them. I would call them & ask what it's for.
eta. when my boss gave someone a bonus, he commented to me that they didn't even thank him for it. Turns out it was extra money in their paycheck & they don't look at their direct deposits.

If it's a bonus it should be noted as such on the pay stub - and would be taxed around 48%  if I remember correctly. But it's weird to just get a bonus check with no acknowledgement from management, no explanation of the #s (is it merit or profit-based, kwim?) I don't think they're testing you necessarily but you should definitely ask about it.... Hmm do they pay you for unused personal time for the previous year??

My paycheck was 20.00 more this week..From what I understand there is something going on with Obama and thats why there was in an increase..nobody here got raises but we all got a higher paycheck..
