extra iron and folic acid
my doctor said i needed more iron and folic acid along with my regular prenatal. anyone else take these extra supplements? any issues or concerns? should i be worried?

With my first pregnancy I had to take iron supplements. I took Slow Fe and had no problems!

I take a extra folic acid due to the extra child...but my doc said alot of people do--for anything from certain conditions to extra iron for anemia and so on. Its fine.

I take extra folic acid - no biggie - I also take extra calcium - also no biggie.
Many people need the extra iron esp if they are anemic. It is just a pain to take an extra pill of two but it is perfectly okay for you and baby .

I take extra folic acid b/c of some blood & heart issues before PG. I also take extra iron due to anemia.

I take extra iron and let me tell you it makes a big difference in the way I feel. For the whole 6-7th month I was constantly sick and run down. Then they found I was anemic and I started taking iron and felt like a million bucks!

I take the same supplements. Along with my AM/PM prenatals I take a perscription folic acid once a day.
I'm borderline anemic so I was told to take 2 iron suplements a day but I'm only taking 1. When I take 2 it really exacerbates my constipation, 1 seems to be all that I can handle. I'm going to discuss this with my doc at next visit.

Me too. Slow EZ, extra calcium (due to multiples and being in my mid 30's and calcium depletition starts at that age) as well as the pre-natal.
My OB explained that when you are pregnant you can be considered anemic, not because of the typical factors, but because the volume of your blood increases so much, thus diluting the iron. This is the same reason why it's more common with multiples... more babies, more anemic.

Me too and I am also on an extra miligram of Folic acid in addition to my prenatals b/c of my 2 factors contributing to thrombosis
