extra wide shoes for toddlers? where can i find them?

we went to feet first today to get DS his first real pair of sneakers. he's almost 14 months old and was measured at a size 5 EXTRA wide foot

so my mom bought him a pair of $48 sneakers since it's his first pair. we went to kohl's next to get other things so i looked at the sneakers they had there---they had a handful of regular wide sneakers (not in his size of course) but no extra wide at all.

where else can i find extra wide shoes for cheaper? i can't possibly pay $50 for each pair of his shoes. luckily he doesn't need many now, but he will.

I know Stride Rite makes wide shoes -- not sure how expensive they are or if there are stores in NY (I'm in NC)

Stride Rite sells some and so do payless...My dd has very wide feet and the brand Nautrino has been working well! I try to find them on sale!

I hate to break it to you, but you might be stuck with the $50 shoes for a while. My son only has one pair of shoes because they are so expensive and he grows out of them so fast.

My DS has Xwide feet and Stride Rite are the only shoes I have found that fit him. I also have not had good luck at the outlet store because they don't carry as many Xwide shoes as the regular store. Also, the ones we saw that we thought were good for early walkers were never the ones on sale.

But, my friend's son had XX wide feet when he was small and now as a pre-schooler, I think she can get the cheaper shoes for him.

I buy all my striderite shoes from shoebuy.com using coupon codes and ebates.com rebates. I've saved a ton that way, and haven't paid more than $25-30/pair (and often less!).

Payless wide used to fit DD#1 when she was little and she was a Stride Rite Extra Wide

I have seen them at the stride rite outlet in Lake Success. Their shoes are in the $20 range ($22-26 usually - sometimes they have a buy one get one 1/2 off).

Well made toddler shoes are just expensive. DD isn't even wide, she's regular- and we got her 2 pairs of shoes for this fall ("school shoes") and it was $100... but they are well made shoes, breathable- natural linings, etc.

as they get older, their feet sholud get a little narrower so you might be able to get down to a wide. also as they get older and you can use velcro shoes, you can get them not as wide as you would for laces. they sit a little differently and can stretch a bit more over a wide foot. we did this for my son alot once he was a little bit older and walking really well. target wide velcro was fine although they don't hold up very well. stride rites always lasted longer. payless does carry wide widths as someone else already said. and i can't remember where i read this, but their house brand with hte wide widths is made by the same manufacturer that makes stride rite shoes.

I buy from New balance express. I usually pay around $25.00 per pair. You can also find them at Marshalls for cheaper. I like them much better than Stride Rite.

DD was a 4 1/2 Extra Wide to start...we went to stride rite.

I have also found wide shoes at Payless, and some of the styles at Target are pretty wide as well...

Are you anywhere near Century 21 in Westbury? Its hit or miss but Ive gotten wide stride rite shoes for $25.

DD is a wide and I have always done well at the Stride Rite outlet - especially when it is buy one get one half off.

I would definitely try there first! I usually pay between 25-30 for sneakers, less for sandals.

My DS has very wide feet. I have tried a lot of different wide shoes and wasted my money -- they all give him blisters or leave red marks.

I stick to stride rite or new balance now. It is worth the money to me, especially since everything else irritates his feet. I buy them at the outlets a lot (lake success or deer park)

Def Payless bc I was able to get sandals there last year but I buy my DS his shoes at SR. I got his sandals at the outlet this year so they were only $25 but his sneakers were $45. He has a high instep and it seems to be a very hard type of foot to fit. Other stuff is hit or miss. I can tell on sight if a pair of shoes will fit him and most slip ons would never fit. With winter boots, I just had to try them on in diff places till I found some that fit. I am not buying SR winter boots.

I used to wait for sales at the regular stride ride.

Now I will only go to the outlets. So much cheaper!!!
