Extremely high Lipa bill this month for no reason
I got an extremely high bill this month, higher than summer months with AC and extremely higher than any fall/winter months. Then my electric was out in the middle of my Thanksgiving and ruined my whole dinner. LIPA came. It turned out to be something wrong with my LIPA connection and they temporarily fixed it and will be back this week to permanently fix it. I have some big machine on the side of my house until they come.
Has anyone ever disputed a high bill and gotten it reduced at all? I cannot see how this month my bill is almost twice as high as a summer month with full AC on all the time. My bill is triple what is usually is this time of year. It looks like a big job LIPA has to do to repair my service that went out. I am wondering if there is some connection to my outage today and this repair we need and the readings being off or our house needing more energy due to a malfunction of our connection.

I'm not sure if this is the same for electric, but I recently had this problem with our gas utility...I thought they were grossly overcharging us. I demanded they come out and read the meter again and after they did they credited us over $200! HTH!

My MIL had a similar situation with her LIPA bill. I looked it over in comparison to her previous bill (from summer) and the only difference I saw was last bill was estimate reading while this month's was an actual reading and they charged the difference between the estimate and actual. Her bill last month was ~180 while this month was ~300

This is exactly how my bill works, but I never had it this high before, ever. It is triple what it should be this time of year.

Are you on balanced billing? I have this problem near the end of the year every year. I pay so low most months and then 1 month way too much.

I don't do the balanced billing. They estimate each month and then add on the difference when they do the actual reading. I have been doing this for quite a bit of years. But this month it is extremely high.
