Eye exam for infants?
My girlfriends son is 3 weeks younger than my DS who is just about 9 months old. She said at her DS's 8 month check up her ped told her to book an appt for an eye exam. My ped never mentioned anything about an eye exam at our 8 month checkup. Is this normal? Did your DC's have one? Should I call the ped and see whats up?

I have to schedule Joey's too, he said to get one done around 8 months. It's very quick, they do in the ped. office.

Re: Eye exam for infants?
My pedi just did it at DS's 8 month visit. They said it was something that they do when a baby reaches 6 months. It was a quick test.

Re: Eye exam for infants?
I don't think DD ever had one and I haven't heard anything about it for DS yet and he is 7 months.

Re: Eye exam for infants?
Yes, DD had one at about 4 months. However, this was ONLY because I had a very bad turn in my eye as a kid (I was the dork with the eye patch and the bifocals and had to have eye therapy, etc.). Doctor was just being proactive when he referred me because it can be hereditary and the earlier you can get on something like that the better.... luckily, DD showed no signs of it, but she could still develop it.
I don't know of any infants that have gone to eye doctors unless there was some concern.

Re: Eye exam for infants?
My DD had one at 2 mths but that was for what they thought was an eye problem. Other than that, she is now 18 mths and no eye exam (2 mth one was perfect).

Re: Eye exam for infants?
DS was never sent for one. Once he started telling us 'my eyes are broken' right before he turned two, we had no reason. We took him to the eye dr around 2 years. His eye dr said looks like he will be ready for glasses in a few years. Guess they know by the shape of stuff in the eye.
