I think people just don't think of it as a place to be concerned with spelling, grammar, etc.
I tend to agree.
Improper punctuation and capitalization (or the utter lack of punctuation) is a big pet peeve of mine, but I don't expect everyone here - a pretty casual environment - to be perfect about that all the time...

And some of the stuff I see on here is pretty bad, too, IMO. Entire posts without one period, for example. Then things like people using "could of" instead of "could have" - not even knowing the proper word choice. If I spent time worrying about it, I'd drive myself crazy.
Then again, I guess I'm not as exposed to it -- My friends even text in complete sentences with the words spelled out.
ETA - I am more concerned with the fact that technology is raising a generation of people who little to no interpersonal skills than I am with the ridiculous, making-my-eyes bleed "creative" spelling. If it's adults doing it, that's just ridiculous. Kids at least have a shot at growing out of it.
