Facebook Q & A- if you know your way around FB please come in
So I just joined and I have so many questions. Instead of posting new threads every single time maybe we can do it all in one place.
here's some of my questions:
If you friend someone, is there a way to see if its still pending?
How do you assign someone as a "family" member?
What does "poking" someone do?

You cannot see the status of a friend request.
There are two ways of assigning someone as family memeber. One is you go to your friends list (click on the friends tab) and then click on that persons entry in the list. There is a pull down menu that asks how you know this person. Complete that and then have them confirm it.
The other way requires you to download the "my family" (I think that's the name) application. Once you download it you can list all your family members and type in their relationship to you.
As for poking, I see absolutely NO point to it yet I have a cousin and friend who I continually poke (and they poke back!!  ). If there is a reason for it, I'd love to know myself!

you actually can. search for the person and they will appear in the results list - where it would normally say "add as friend" it will say "friend requested". if they've already accepted, you will see neither (and you would have gotten a notification and a wall posting)

 so I guess when it says request firend they have denied me!!
