Failed one-hour glucose screening...

BY FIVE POINTS! I am livid!

Has this happened to a lot of you? Is it common to fail the screening and have to take the three-hour?

I also found out that my iron is low -- no big surprise because that issue runs in my family. The doctor put me on "Slow Fe" supplements.

This is going to sound stupid, but I sort of feel like a "failure" -- like I haven't been taking care of my nutritional needs well enough... Chat Icon

Re: Failed one-hour glucose screening...

Based on how many of us failed the 1 hour and then passed the 3 hour, I think it's probably pretty common.

I also makes me doubt the validity of the 1 hour test.

Especially since it seems some docs say to fast, some docs say don't fast, etc.

Re: Failed one-hour glucose screening...

This has nothing to do with how you eat - it is the surge in hormones at 28 weeks that determines if you have it. "Gestational diabetes is a form of diabetes that affects pregnant women who have never had diabetes before. There is no known specific cause, but it's believed that the hormones produced during pregnancy reduce a woman's receptivity to insulin resulting in high blood sugar."

You do not have any control over having it - you can only control your blood sugar levels once you know about it. You definetly are not a failure!

I passed it by 1 point so I could have easily failed and I don't eat much sweets or junk food.

If you're a failure, then the majority of the women posting here are failures too! Sooooo many people fail the 1 hour, but go on ot pass the 3 hour! I know I did!

Thank you so much, everyone... y'know, I hear the word "fail" and I am instantly transported back to my nerdy school days... "but I can't fail! My mom will kill me!" Chat Icon
