Re: Families of Two: How much do you spend?

Each week, our food total is around $75. It's just DH and I. Sometimes this includes beer, sometimes it doesn't.

So, $300 a month on groceries. Not including cat food/litter/treats, etc. because we've got three cats and trust me, if I added that stuff in, it'd raise the amount significantly.

Then restaurants/take-out/liquor and wine...can vary month-to-month. Generally speaking though, I think we spend about another $200 a month on going out. Has definitely been less and has definitely been more. Usually less going out in the colder months, and more in the summer.

I'm gonna click on the $400 - $500 range.

Re: Families of Two: How much do you spend?

Probably around $400-$500 per month. This includes usually two $150 grocery trips, DH's lunch everyday, and eating out a few times a week.

We definitley spend less than $400. we don't go out to eat a lot so that keeps the cost down.

I would say about $350/month, and that's on the high end. We split our shopping between Target and Stop and Shop.

I easily spend 100 bucks a week on a regular grocery haul. That doesn't include the few times a week I run in to get fresh produce, or a big Costco shop once a month, or Walmart for half and half, etc, or fast food/restaurants, and of course WINE Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

we really don't eat out, I love to cook and I feel that we eat healthier that way. We also both bring or go home for lunch everyday so we do not eat out for lunch either!

We don't eat out or do take out much. I do cook a lot because we both bring our lunches to work.
I'd love to bring that cost down.

WOW i don't know how you guys do it. Congrats for that!!

I make almost all of our dinners and lunches and on a good month this will still fall between $400-$500. Most months, we will end up going out a few times and this pushes it to $500-$600. If we don't budget, we have spent up to $850 a month easily. I think our yearly average right now is about $550 a month.

I can't even begin to imagine how I could knock that down to $200 a month.

I shop the sales. I clip coupons. For example, one of my favorite things in the world is Progresso soup...but it could be $3'ish a can. I wait for a sale at Stop & Shop - every few weeks they do a 10 cans for $10 sale (but you don't have to buy 10 to get the sale price)...when that sale hits, I'll grab a few and usually have a coupon for 'buy three, get one free' or something to that effect. That's just one example of how I do it.

You can view circulars online...so that helps me plan meals for the week before going shopping.

We don't drink soda, aside from the occasional bottle of seltzer. We don't eat meat, but that doesn't mean that we don't spend a similar amount of money on protein-rich foods as some would spend on meat/poultry.

I buy only fruits and veggies that are in season. They're cheaper and taste better.

I buy a lot of store-brand stuff. Frozen veggies, bread, pasta, paper products, OTC drugs.

I never ever go to the store when I'm hungry. I'd buy everything if I did!

And finally, make a list and stick to it! I always make a list and DH and I joke that I allow each of us to buy one 'fun' thing. It's true. He usually goes for ice cream or a jar of nuts and I usually go for a magazine.

Re: Families of Two: How much do you spend?

probably about 250.00 a month or less. I am a hugh coupon shopper, never pay full price for anything.
I try to make a game out of it....how much can I possibly save :)

$400-$500 a month just at the grocery store or farmers market -- maybe a little less during the winter when we don't have a CSA subscription.

Then another $100 in restaurant, bar, and liquor store tabs.

Re: Families of Two: How much do you spend?

We spend about $500 per month on groceries including alcohol.
Eating out varies- I'd say it is about $200 per month
I choose the $700- 800 category.

I also think this question really depends on where you shop. We only buy organic products at Whole Foods which raises our bill.

Re: Families of Two: How much do you spend?

I'd say we spend about 20€ a day om average for both of us. So 140€ a week.

With exchange I'd say that goes over $800. We go out a fair bit and I like cooking, so I spend extra for the quality ingredients.
