Fashion goddesses....I need your help ladies - vacation related
Dress me for Italy please!
I want to run out and get some new things before I leave. What can I wear?
Also - I need comfy sneakers or flips. Which ones do you recommend?

when are you leaving and what cities are you visiting?
Noooo flips for Rome - you'll sprain your ankle on the cobblestones.

We are only staying in Florence but have a bunch of day trips to other cities. I didn't want to bounce around Italy with a one year old (that would def. not be a vacation for me! )
ETA: Leaving next week!

Re: Fashion goddesses....I need your help ladies - vacation related
we spent time in Florence on our HM
PLEASE tell me you're going to Siena? That's DH and my favorite city. The Duomo is IMO, the most beautiful church we saw. Do me a favor and grab a slice of pizza, sit in Il Campo, chow down and just breathe in your surroundings. it doesn't get any better than that. I'M SO JEALOUS
I was also there in July 2005 and it was HOTTTT. I would recommend a lightweight sneaker (like a puma or something) or a sandal with a formed but flexible rubber bottom. You'll do a LOT of walking - flip flops will kill your heels, ankles, toes. Excessive walking (and an 8 hr plane ride) also makes my feet/ankles swell, so I didn't bring anything too tight either.
If you're just taking a quick walk out to grab dinner or gelato, flip flops are fine...just not for sightseeing!
Don't forget to visit the San Lorenzo Market in Florence and BUY SOME LEATHER!!!! I got some great bags there on my HM. We also brought home wallets for everyone.
Remember that you can't enter many of the churches if you're not dressed respectfully - meaning no tanks or short shorts/skirts.
We were lucky enough to see a wedding one night
OMG, have a GREAT TIME!

We are going to Siena and I am sooooo excited!
Thanks for the advice and we will def. have pizza there (I wrote it down)
I had no idea that the churches didn't let you in with shorts or tanks. I am pretty much wearing strapless dresses the entire time - but wanted a few other things.
I am going to FM you some really stupid questions that I'm too embarrassed to ask on here (Not Fashion related anyway )

They were a bit more strict with this in Florence vs. Rome. At one church (maybe it was the Duomo in Florence?) they had paper towel-like shawls for the women in tank tops to put on.

Just to clarify. For the churches NO shoulders and no knees can be visible.
and it is H O T.
I went to VS and bought a bunch of those T shirt dresses. They covered my shoulders and were a little below the knee - they were cotton and some of them where bra top so i didnt have to worry about the bra. My only regret is that I got them in light colors and you saw every drop of sweat.

Re: Fashion goddesses....I need your help ladies - vacation related
bermuda shorts were fine in all the churches
your dresses should be fine (as long as they are long enough) just bring a pretty scarf and drape it over your shoulders if wearing strapless--then just tuck the scarf away when not using it
u already know my feeling on sneakers!!
don't forget your sunglasses
don't over pack---i did---i thought we'd go out more at night (so i packed a lot of going out outfits) but were too exhausted after sightseeing all day that we usually just hung out by a fountain or near a popular square...........try to mix and match outfits..........

You are NOT supposed to be bare shoulders (tanktop included or strap top) in churches. Nothing above the knee.
