Ques for you ladies-Not Parenting related (sort of)
If a current SIL was pg, eventually finding out what they are having, would you be upset if they choose a name that you were going to choose for that gender?

Does she know that you want that name? If so then yes...if not then yes I would be sad about it but not with her for using it.
Remember when I was preggo and found out right at the end that someone in the family was using a similar name? We both used the name (similar versions) and everything worked out.

No I would not be upset, and honestly, I do not understand why this upsets people but that is my opinion
I am going to name my baby what I want, no matter what anyone else is naming their baby

I would be bummed about it, especially if they knew I liked it, but if they like it too, I really can't say "I reserve that name for my next child." How could I know who loves the name more? Maybe she liked it before I did.

That exact situation just happened to me! My SIL is due in January. I didn't know until I was in the hospital having Abby. Just a week before that, she asked me my name choices and for a girl I said it's up in the air, but right now Abigail and Margaret/Maggie. So, we went with Abby, but DH still wants Maggie if we ever have another girl.
In July SIL found out she's having her first girl...name choice: Margaret/Maggie. I was upset, but I knew it was totally irrational--the fact of the matter is that I had 2 girls and didn't use that name. Well, it's since become a non-issue since my BIL didn't like Margaret...and little Hannah is coming in January!! 
Oh, I forgot to add...Margaret is the name of her grandmother who had just died, so I would be a real baby if I carried a grudge over it!

I will explain why..just a little history, she has 3 boys already, pg with 4th. I know they are hoping its a girl but if not, they tend to stick with certain names due to their Italian background.
I already threw the name out there what I was going to name my boy a specific name esp since I also thought Gianna was going to be a boy.
I KNOW to spite me at the same time that she may do this to me.
DH said he would be ok if they took the name.
And to add, I knew that she loved a girl name that she wanted to use, I also happened to like it.
Noone would think she was going to get pg again either.
I CHOOSE not to use it because it was on her list.

I would be annoyed but if that was the name I was planning on using I would still use it even though she is going to. But I probably wouldn't make a bid deal out of it because what if you get pregnant and you don't even have the sex that you had the name picked out for.

When you put it that way, yeah, I'd be very annoyed. When is she finding out the sex? Hopefully it will be a girl and you don't have to worry about it.

YES! And my SIL WAS going to use the name I was going to use for a girl...BUT she is having a boy...but the whole point that she was going to use it upset me...but I look at her copying me as a form of flattery...and the fact that she can't come up with a name of her own says a lot about her...

Now I definitely say YES...I would be upset because if she knows that this is the name you wanted to use and is doing it out of spite (meaning she didn't have this name on her radar before) I would be very upset. Granted there isn't anything you can do to change things.
You can still use this name too. Don't let this stop you if you really love the name.

thats what DH said. Hes like...all Italian families have duplicate names.

ETA: I know Im not pg or anything and plan on #2 some time down the road.

If my SIL was pregnant, she could pick my name, my children's names & every name I ever imagined liking. I would be so beyond thrilled for her, I would never begrudge her a name.
My sister, on the other hand, wanted to pick my son's name after telling us she would never name any of her children that. I told her she was an azz.

It would bother me if I thought she was using the name to spite me...but ordinarily I'd just use the name anyway and make it very clear to her (before her possible son arrives) that I'd be using that name as well.
