Father names child "Sarah McCain Palin", ignoring wife's wishes
ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. — A new father has secretly named his baby girl Sarah McCain Palin after the Republican ticket for president and vice president.
Mark Ciptak of Elizabethton put that name on the documents for the girl’s birth certificate, ignoring the name Ava Grace, which he and his wife had picked earlier.
“I don’t think she believes me yet,” he told the Kingsport Times-News for a story to be published Tuesday. “It’s going to take some more convincing.”
Ciptak, a blood bank employee for the American Red Cross, said he named his third child after John McCain and Sarah Palin to “to get the word out” about the campaign.
“I took one for the cause,” he said. “I can’t give a lot of financial support for the (McCain/Palin) campaign. I do have a sign up in my yard, but I can do very little.”

It's a free country and people can choose the name that they want. 
ETA; My grandma went behind my grandpa's back and my poor uncle grew up being called by two different names 
She had the name she wanted on the birth cert. and never told my grandpa.
We all called him one name and she always called him by his legal name!

he thinks he can get the "word" out better in Podunk TN better than a MULTIMULION dollar ad campagin
If I were his wife I would stab him to death, just for going behind my back after I pushed a child out of my vagina. you BEST believe I have a say in the naming!

this story sounds odd to me, doesn't the mother and father have to sign something when the name chosen?? for this exact reason
I remember seeing this on desperate housewives last season! And she couldn't give the baby the name she wanted b/c she had already agreed to the name mike liked

I'd be down at the courthouse filing paperwork right after I found out. It's great he wants to get the word out but there are other ways to do it without causing a rift in your marriage & with your wife that spent the last 10 months pregnant.
Also as far as I know the mother names the child - at least in my hospital. I filled out the paperwork.

not only that, but HE didn't take anything for the cause. his KID did.
he should have changed his OWN name to Sarah McCain Palin....THAT word would have spread quickfast

Honestly, the wife should get the girl's name changed back to Ava Grace and register her husband's name change to Sarah McCain Palin. What a doofus head.
