Favorite Books to read to a newborn?
One of my girlfriends is pregnant --- due 2 weeks after me. It's been so nice to be pregnant together with her!
Just for an extra little baby present I am making her a little newborn hat for him (I crochet) and then I also wanted to get her a few board books for his library.
I was a teacher for 8 years so books are such a treasure to me...but I've also been out of the loop for several years since my DD is now 6.5 years old.
I do have old favorites like Guess How Much I Love You, Good Night Moon, the Nancy Tafuri books, etc.
But can you add to my list of favorite books to read to a baby? Something soft and loving and expressing the love between a Mommy, Daddy and Baby? I'd like to get her 3-4 books that will always be special to them!
TIA! Melissa

On The Night You Were Born by Nancy Tillman makes me cry every time. Someone bought it for my shower from Kohls.
ETA: This isnt a board book but still a beautiful story...

I love Karen Katz' books. Most of them are flap books but SOO cute!
FP also makes some cute Laugh and Learn books like Peek-a-boo Baby that has a mirror on every page.

I love Moo Baa Fa La La and Horns to Toes by Sandra Boyton. After a while I had them memorized and I would just recite them to DD while she was in the high chair and I was cleaning up or cooking in the kitchen. She found them very amusing.

It's Time to Sleep My Love also by Nancy Tillman.
The Small Seed, a Scholastic book we rec'd while in the NICU
Pat the Bunny, a soft book.
Heaven is Having You
Many of Dr Seuss' books. (the rhymes, rhythms and cadences are great and I loved them when I was small)
I Went Walking (similar to Brown Bear Brown Bear)
Guess How Much I Love You
We've been reading so many of these books since they were born. It's awesome to see them now at 10 months acknowledging their favorites!
ETA: Sandra Boyton books are great ! We have Fifteen Animals, The Belly Button Book and a couple of others.

Re: Favorite Books to read to a newborn?
Not a board book, but my favorite that I read to DD and give as a gift now is, Marianne Richmond, "If I Could Keep You Little".
