Favorite brands of yarn?
For those of you who knit/crochet, do you have a favorite brand of yarn?

Re: Favorite brands of yarn?
it depends on what i'm looking to make:
for socks, i love cascade heritage hand painted yarn... each skein is about $18 and is enough to make knee high socks. the colors are awesome and they wear very well.
most cascade yarns are wonderful work-horse yarns and their prices are pretty good.
mis babs sock yarns are really nice. she makes two-ply and three-ply sock yarns. if you're making socks, go for the three-ply, if you're making a shawl, go for the two-ply
wollmeise is very popular, but i haven't used it
knit picks has good yarns at really good prices. they've recently introduced an acrylic line
malabrigo is awesome... i've worked with their undyed baby alpaca and it was heaven
stay away from manos del uruguay serena. it has lovely drape and is wonderfully soft, but it's FULL OF KNOTS. for such an expensive yarn, you would think they would give you a better quality product
this is all that comes to mind without having to look things up. i know that there are a lot of other wonderful yarns out there.
are you looking to make anything in particular?

Re: Favorite brands of yarn?
Like Libby, totally depends on what I am making. For crocheting, I use acrylic yarns since the items are mostly toys. I also use acrylics for things like bags that I've knitted. Caron or Lion brand is usually what I use for those.
Knit picks has great yarns, great prices.
Cascade 220 is nice to work with.
Berroco Vintage is another I like.
I make little spa kits (soap socks, wash cloths) and use cotton, mostly Lily sugar and cream
Paton's Classic wool is nice too for a cheap, readily available wool yarn.
