I haven't been there in YEARS but we used to LOVE Sgt.Garcia's on Austin Street in Forest Hills.
That is also where DH proposed to me!

Meson Ole! There is one in Commack, and I have also been to the one in Greenport....by far the BEST MEXICAN food EVER!

I tend not to like "mexican" customized for "american" tongues.
If I don't see mexicans eating in a mexican restaurant, I'm not either. I am very picky.
that being said, my favorites are "dive" mexican restaurants, mostly in Brooklyn. this place Calexico in Park Slope is pretty good, cheap, and authentic...as well as Eloras on PPW.
I effing HATE chain/kitschy mexican joints. the rice usually SUX. and I BETTER not see a tomato in the guacamole.
