Favorite Places to see out East?
...Especially in the FALL! Name some places you like to see when taking a drive out East. DH and I are going to take a day for ourselves () this Sunday. We would like to do apple picking, pumpkin if available and just want to explore.
What are some great/fun places to see? All things would have to be outdoor or doggy-friendly b/c we want to spend some time with Char since she has been so good while we have been so busy all summer. I'm trying to do the responsible thing and make sure they are OK with pups *before* going!
Thanks so much!!

Re: Favorite Places to see out East?
I love wondering through the following towns:
Greenport Southold Mattituck
If you want, just get onto Sound Avenue and take it all the way out. There are wineries, farms for apple and pumpkin picking and lots of pretty scenery.
I would say that's your best bet.
Have fun, it's supposed to be a beautiful weekend!!!

Sure- come to my neck of the woods and don't visit.
I agree w/ the above. I live out here, so I'm not much help... I don't drink so I rarely go to the wineries. Harbes probably has some stuff going on this weekend (the one I prefer is on the north road in laurel) but it might be a zoo there- it usually is on the weekends. Also, the Greenport Maritime festival is this weekend I think. That could be fun. HTH!

Re: Favorite Places to see out East?
That sounds perfect Jennie!
I wanted to find a good road to just wander along -- I guess I get to Sound Avenue from the LIE?
Also, can I access a town like Greenport (which I have heard great things about) by traveling along that road too or is that someplace else? B/c I could do half the day exploring Sound Avenue and the other half in Greenport.
Thanks again!!! This is our first day together, all day, just the two of us, no other responsibilities since - well, since before May that's for sure!

Really? We had pretty much ruled that out thinking it was non-dog friendly. Thanks for posting - I'll definitely look into it further and make sure.

I am sure they don't let them in the tasting rooms- but if you and DH want to buy a bottle of wine and bring a picnic or something and sit out in the outside patio areas- I know for sure I have seen doggies out there at a few places.... Laurel Lake is one I know for sure that I have seen pups outside!

Re: Favorite Places to see out East?
We took our entire bridal party in a limo, out to the wineries the weekend of our wedding, and there were a bunch of dogs at pindor (sp?) and they have a huge covered thing out back with live bands and you can have vinny run in and get a bottle and you can also bring your own food, we did that, it was so much fun!! you should try and stop there!
there were a bunch more wineries that had outdoor stuff going on I just don't remember there names. We kinda just had the driver drive us along and would tell him to pull over at places that looked like fun.
Kyle and I have driven out east many times, its more fun when you just stop at all different stuff and you have no plan. This is the best time of the year. We've even done a few corn mazes and picked apples and pumpkins! Your gonna have a great time! oh and if anyone is selling roasted corn you should try it, its soooo yummy!

Re: Favorite Places to see out East?
If you want to see Greenport, I recommend go tomorrow (if you can). It's the Maritime Festival and it's so much fun! I believe the parade starts at noon.
Here's a hint for getting to greenport! Avoid Riverheads Traffic Circle
Take the LIE to exit 71 (Edwards Ave). Make a Left onto Edwards Ave. Take Edwards Ave to Sound Ave and make a right. Take Sound Ave about 20 miles east to Greenport.
Sounds like a long ride. I leave from East Northport and usually hit Greenport in about an hour and 15 mins.
It's worth it.

Harbes is a family farm (I went to school w/ their oldest child) that has corn, flowers, etc.. that you can buy but has YUMMY roasted corn and hot dogs and other stuff... it's just a nice place to stop. http://www.harbesfamilyfarm.com

And for the love of Pete... it is HARB S NOT HarbEs (like Arby's). I was playing at Vets beach with the kids when a couple was on a phone, talking loudly and said "yes, lets meet you at HarbEs" I cringed.
