Favorite Stephen King story?
GoldenRod's post got me thinking..
I've read every book except for the Dark Tower series (started them and just couldn't get into it)
I think some of my all time fav's are:
IT Bag of Bones The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon Dreamcatcher Cujo 'Salems Lot
And the short stories: Apt Pupil The Mangler The Mist
i could go on and on!!

Re: Favorite Stephen King story?
I like pretty much all of them (it's probably obvious from all the posts on the "What are you reading now..." thread...
I think the scariest one for me is The Cell. Mainly because it's something a lot of people fear, and it *could* potentially happen. A mind-controlling signal sent to everyone's cellphone..... Much scarier to me than a clown in the sewer.
The Dark Tower series was really cool. It's a departure from his typical supernatural horror stories, but very well written, and with tons of detail, as is typical for him.
I love that in every one of his stories, he gives props to other authors and books.

I haven't read a lot of him because I like him, but his endings often bother me. That being said, my favorite overall book, including ending, was: Thinner
Other ones I like as well: The Gunslinger books The Stand Desperation

Re: Favorite Stephen King story?
I was going through the list in my head last night, and I remembered that I really loved Needful Things. I loved how he had everyone doing stuff to everyone else. Another story that I could see happening today. Maybe not to the scale of the book, but I would bet that a lot of people would fall into that category, even without a magical object.
Gerald's Game is another "could be real" story, so it makes it scarier to me.
Has anyone noticed that a lot of his stories wouldn't really work in the 2000s. Everyone has cell phones now, so books like Gerald's Game and Cujo probably wouldn't happen.
I could picture Cujo being one page.... "So, when we got to the farmhouse, Cujo attacked the window. I pressed the OnStar button, and the animal control and police were here in 15 minutes. Thanks OnStar!"

Re: Favorite Stephen King story?
One thing i always loved about his books is how he references characters, locations and events from his other books
There's always a subtle reference to something from another of his stories in each tale that i love catching!

I know what you mean. i remember being so disappointed by the ending of The Dome but since i loved the rest of the book, i just ignored the ending
