Feedback on Kitchen Depot or Consumers...

We are toying with the idea of redoing our kitchen and our biggest expense is going to be cabinets.

Anyone have any feedback on either Kitchen Depot in Hauppauge or Consumers as far as pricing?

TIA!!!

Re: Feedback on Kitchen Depot or Consumers...

Thanks! I've used Consumers for my bathroom vanity and other little things and have been happy. My dad is a contractor and that is who he has always used.

He hasn't worked with them lately and we got a reco for Kitchen Depot so I figured I'd ask.

I'm just hoping that it works out moneywise. My kitchen is literally falling apart and just the mere suggestion of DH wanting to do it is HUGE. I love to cook and would love a nice new kitchen that has a better flow and is more efficient than the 1980's thing I have going on now Chat Icon

Lori check out lakeville industries they just opened a location in Smithtown, they have better prices and much better quality. Designers and builders buy from them but consumers can too for similar pricing

I used consumers and they were the cheapest for the quality we got. We bought Kraftmaid.and couldn't be happier.....home depot wanted 2x the price for the same cabinets

Friends of the family (who live across the street from you actually!Chat Icon ) used Consumers and had a REALLY bad experience. It took months for the cabinets to arrive, and when they did, they were broken, so they sent new ones....which were also broken.....it took a reeeeeeally long time for them to finish the kitchen because of the issues with the cabinets.

I used Consumers twice. Both with no real issues.

We used consumers for our countertops and cabiniets, we had no problems and would definitely recommend them.

We used consumers for our kitchen an were really happy. I forget what town the location we used was in. I know it was near Babylon on Sunrise Hwy. if that helps.

Re: Feedback on Kitchen Depot or Consumers...

I'm a fan of Kraftmaid myself. My bathroom vanity is that brand and after 8 years of abuse it still looks brand new.

I went last night and with the cheapest from their line my cabinets would be around $9,000. Add in granite for another $4, new appliances and flooring I don't think we have the money to do it Chat Icon

It kills me - it needs to be done. For now its functional but seriously falling apart. We both agreed that we don't want a quick cheap fix - not with the amount I cook and the kids.

So frustrating.

check out Ikea cabinets, they have had great reviews and pretty good quality!
Also, skip the granite for now to save, put down butcher block from ikea which is really cheap and IMO better looking then fomica. save up for the granite and install it at a later date.
Appliances can be done the same way! use what you have now and slowly replace everything. Also check out PC Richard scratch and dent in deer park. you can save a ton!
And for the floor, this is where you can't cheap out, but you do have options. you can buy cermaic instead of porclain to save $. or do a wood laminate. I have that in my kitchen and I really like. it wasn't an option for us since we bought the house that way, but I really do love it. And its very DIY friendly. good luck!!

I also would suggest IKEA-I am pretty sure you can do the cabinets for 5k. Look for a cheaper alternative to Granite and you're good to go. FM Bxgell-she used IKEA cabinets a couple of times I think...

Re: Feedback on Kitchen Depot or Consumers...

I am definitely going to check out Ikea - hear they rated higher than the Kraftmaid!!!!!

My hubby wants granite - I could care less. There are SOOO many other solid surfaces out there that could work.

Heather - I agree on the flooring. I won't cheap out there. We'll probably head over to Procida and get something there. I always do really well and they have a great selection.

Thanks everyone - dinner at my house when its all done Chat Icon

Home Depot has Kraftmaid!! we used them and they were superfast and delivered on time and everything was perfect. Take out a home depot credit card and pay off within a year at no interest!!!!!! They also have granite!!!

We're redoing ours in the next year. From my research, IKEA is the way to go.

We're hoping to do it over the winter when Neil is home. Labor is free (he works for food Chat Icon ) and of course we have my dad so we're thankful for that.

I guess I'm hitting Ikea one day next week when I'm off. I'm just hoping they have the style/color cabinets I want. The ones in Consumers that I absolutely fell in LOVE with were of course, the most expensive ones in the store Chat Icon

that was my issue with them, their styles are limited. check the website they list them all there, and stay clear of IKEA on a weekend! its a nightmare!
