Feedback on Long Beach - Rental

So I am looking for a rental for a few months while I am inbetween houses, and it seems like Long Beach would be the perfect place to live due to the abundance of winter rentals.

So can someone give me the scoop on this area. Where the good/bad areas are. Any places I should avoid. Is parking difficult (need to park two cars). Etc etc.

I am looking at one place in a building near Shore Road, east of the LIRR station. Looking at another place west of the LIRR station near West Beech St and Arizona Ave (where all the houses are bunched up together). I have no clue what these areas are like.

If you want to FM, that's cool. Any feedback would be most appreciated.

Re: Feedback on Long Beach - Rental

stay away from the state streets

parking in a nightmare

I live 3 blocks west of the train station on W. Broadway....no parking issues- even in the summer b/c there are not a lot of huge buildings

you might be ok by shore rd depending on what time you get home from work

there is also a free bus that will take you to the train

Thanks. Do you think parking will be bad even during the winter months?

in the state streets - YES

they are mostly rented to groups of post- college grads b/c they are so close to all the bars

5 to 7 people in a house

makes for horrible parking

unless the rental comes with a spot- I would stay away from the west end

Re: Feedback on Long Beach - Rental

i live in the west end and the parking really isn't bad in the winter. i get home sometimes at 10pm without a problem. it really depends on what you're interested in....the west end has more bars and quieter beaches. east end has the train.

Re: Feedback on Long Beach - Rental

I lived at 360 Shore road for 2 years
Its called seapointe towers.
They are co-ops but some owners rent them out.

Pro's
You get one garage spot and then there is a HUGE lot, probably with about 100 spots for all guest parking and extra car parking.
Having parties, guests staying over NEVER a problem.
2 pools and jacuzzi
Direct boardwalk access, you had a key and u got to walk right onto the boardwalk, it was great!
2 elevators
Doorman
24 hour security.
All apartments had balconies and they all faced the water/boardwalk
All 1 bedroom apartments had 1.5 baths
great for guests, the other bathroom was attached to the master
Tons of closet space
Washer/dryer in the apartment

It was great as our first apartment
Some Con's
No dogs, only owners were allowed to have dogs.

Re: Feedback on Long Beach - Rental

i lived in long beach for a few years - rented in 951 Oceanfront (west end - Tennessee Ave.) Yes, parking can be a problem, but I didn't have a problem in the off season. If you look in the west end, stay away from the one way streets. 951 is a great building - nice, but not fancy so its not overpriced. When we moved out in 2006, we were paying $1275 for an oceanview one bedroom with a parking spot that fit both of our cars. The west end is younger whilst the east end tends to be more family oriented. Parking is tough anywhere in the summer just about, Shore Road is another rough spot for that. If you take the train to work, its a long ride - express trains are 50-55 minutes. LB is great, I highly recommend!

Re: Feedback on Long Beach - Rental

Thanks everyone. I think I found a place that I will be looking at today. Hopefully it won't be too nasty so I can leave a deposit.
