Feeding question
So my doctor wants me to wait until 6 months to add any more food to mikayla's diet (I only give her cereal once a day - she LOVES it)...
but,,,when I do start with baby food, I have a few questions
1) how many times a day did you give the baby food? 2) do you mix it with the cereal or just stop cereal and start baby food? 3) how much at one sitting did you give? 4) do you give the baby food along with the bottled formula or at different times? 5) If my dd has been having rice cereal for about a month already, when the Dr. gives the go ahead to introduce more foods, would you still do rice cereal or go right to oatmeal, or baby food?
sorry for all the questions, TIA

Re: Feeding question
1) how many times a day did you give the baby food? We gave cereal at breakfast and dinner and a fruit or a veggie at lunchtime and then he got his bottle after.
2) do you mix it with the cereal or just stop cereal and start baby food? I never mixed food with his cereal. i wanted him to get used to different flavors and textures
3) how much at one sitting did you give? I started with half of a stage one and then increased it as he seemed to want more
4) do you give the baby food along with the bottled formula or at different times? Food first, then his bottle. We still do it that way
5) If my dd has been having rice cereal for about a month already, when the Dr. gives the go ahead to introduce more foods, would you still do rice cereal or go right to oatmeal, or baby food? I would start giving oatmeal (which Ds never seemed to care for) or barley. Wait 3-4 days and then you can introduce a baby food.

follow up question
Did you still give him a bottle in the am and pm along with the cereal or just cereal and that was his meal?
were there times during the day that you only gave him a bottle?
TIA

At that time I believe he was getting 5 bottles a day. So he'd have breakfast and a bottle, then just a mid-morning bottle, then lunch and a bottle, then a mid-afternoon bottle, then dinner and a bottle. Now he's 9 months and just gets his 3 mealtime bottles and snacks in the mid- morning and afternoon.

It is very confusing and I had a ton of questions to. The best thing I can suggest is not to be afraid of food. Let DC take the lead. If DC is curious about things on your plate, than let her try it. DS is 9 months now and eats just about everything. He also feeds himself most of it.

I feel bad because I think she is ready to expand her diet now...she stares at us when we eat and gets all excited. I am not sure why my dr. said to wait till 6 months but whatever

Re: Feeding question
hope it helps-----after 6.5 months, we introduced "real" food to her (everything she liked in gerber jars, but now just the real stuff mashed/pureed/whatever)....but i never gave up the breast to her until she was older......she got into the schedule like so:
wake up- nurse, hour later, breakfast, then nurse b4 the morning nap..... wake up, nurse, hour later, lunch, the nurse b4 afternoon nap.... wake up, DIDNT nurse, got dinner an hour later, then nurse before bedtime......
it kinda phased into about 9/10 months she cut out that morning nap, so it was out with the morning nursing session....then at about 10.5 months, i stopped nursing her before the afternoon nap....at 11 months, she stopped the first wake up morning session (i just stopped) and at 12 months she was done nursing before bed........
and with all this she was obviously getting more food/snacks/etc........
does this help?

Re: Feeding question
Now that Mikayla is on rice cereal, you can try oatmeal or barley soon. Just stick with it for 3-4 days to see if she has any reaction to it. Then you can alternate between the two/three. I would give Nate the oatmeal in the morning and then rice/barley in the evening.
When I started giving Nate solids, I would have the cereal and half jar of fruit or veggie in a divided bowl. I would altenate spoonfuls bc he usually didn't take to some solids on their own at first.
