Feeding schedules...

... does that exist? Or do all newborns pretty much go "on-demand"? If your newborn does have a schedule, did he develop it on his own, or did you help the process along?

I'd like to take more control of Justin's feeding times, but I don't know how/where to begin.

I am a big believer in feeding a newborn on demand, IMO its too early for a schedule

Well, I think that up until a year old they should have what they want on demand...but I think around 3-4 months, when the baby can go longer between feeds, then you can add some structure to it.

I know that you probably long for some structure (I sure did when Noah was a newborn) but it will come soon enough!! For now, just comfort him in anyway that you can, whenever you can!!

Which is why my almost 5 month old baby is sleeping upstairs now in my bed, and my husband is sleeping in the spare room!

Re: Feeding schedules...

My newborn was a scheduled eater from teh start. he was in the NICU for 5 days so they needed him to be on a schedule (drawing blood after each feeding every so many hours) so I think that was why. he ate every 3 hours like clockwork, when he started to eat earlier I knew it was time for more oz of formula per feeding. Even now at 16 months he still is like clockwork when it comes to food.
