Feeling a little scared and freaked

So I have Type 2 diabetes and my sugar levels have not been under control like they should. The pregnancy has also been spiking up my levels too.

Went to see the high risk OB yesterday. I knew he would say that I needed to be put on insulin.

But he also stated that I'm measuring behind, and should be measuring 8-9wks and instead I'm barely measuring 6 wks.

He essentially told me that for a non-diabetic, he wouldn't be so concerned. But for me, it's a good sign that this is not a normal pregnancy and that he believes it's more likely that I may lose this baby in the next few weeks. He hoped he was wrong, but he felt he needed to prepare me for this anyway.

I go back on the 29th for another sono, and if the baby is not getting any bigger, well then I have my answer.

Yesterday was the worst day ever. I cried for hours. These next few weeks will feel like an eternity. I just can not believe this might be happening. How can I be allowed to see that heartbeat flickering on the screen and HEAR it beating (about 127BPM yesterday) and then be told, "You are likely going to lose this child."

We aren't really saying much to family about this - since I don't need to have them freaking too. But I just needed to get this out on here. I don't know how I am going to keep it together until the 29th.

I hope the doc is wrong. Since you said you weren't really "trying," is it possible that you conceived later than you thought?

I definitely think it could be my wacky cycles.

They range from 31-38 days - and he took that into consideration and said "hey it might just be a fluke and you had a really off cycle and O'd a lot later." But since I have the diabetes, it makes him more suspect of that being the reason.

By my estimates I should be about anywhere between 6-7.5wks - by when I had my last period and how long my cycles can be. So who knows.

Now it's just the torture of waiting. Chat Icon

Crashing from IF (and a fellow 07 bride)- did he put you on Metformin right away? If you have diabetes 2, metformin is a must in the first months of the pregnancy and it helps to prevent miscarriage. He's bypassing the metformin and going straight to insulin since he wants my levels down asap and he feels that's the safest thing to do for the baby.

Re: Feeling a little scared and freaked

what an awful thing to hear. i'm so sorry Chat Icon. My DH is a Type 1 Diabetic, so I totally know how wacky blood sugar levels can get at all sorts of life changes. You'll be in my thoughts, I hope it turns out to be fine!

Completely unrelated to diabetes, a friend of mine got PG and was told she'd miscarry within the first trimester. that was over two years ago, and she has a beautiful and healthy baby boy. You never know what will happen until it happens! Chat Icon

Re: Feeling a little scared and freaked

I am so sorry. I am a type 1 diabetic and take insulin (been one for 26 years). My second dc was behind a little in the growth at the beginning about a week or two and she turned out fine. I know it is hard, but stay positive. It is early yet. Chat Icon
