Feeling Depressed That My Daughter Who Is Three Years, Three Months Old Is NOT a Bit Potty Trained Yet, HELP!!!
I just don't get it. The ONLY thing I can think of (and this may sound ridiculous ) is that perhaps since she was a VERYYYYY late walker that the ability for her to potty train is delayed. She was 3 in October! I don't know what to do. I tried the different techniques out there and she just doesn't get it. She is SOOO smart in every ohter area but doesn't grasp to run to the toilet and proceeds to pee in her paties if I have them on her. HELP!!! PLEASE tell me it WILL HAPPEN! She is the ONLY one in her Daycare class that isn't potty trained and I feel like such a FAILURE

I am right with you sister!!!
DS is 3 years, FOUR months! He wants nothing to do with potty training. He knows that he should, but says he doesn't want to. He won't even sit on the potty for more than 2 minutes. VERY frustrating!!!!!!!!!!!!
Interesting about the walking thing, he was delayed in that too. He didn't walk until 18 months.

DS was 3 yrs. 5 months when he finally had some interest. I had tried before that and it was a battle that wasn't worth fighting for me. He was completely potty trained within 2 weeks. Sleeping in underware and everything! He was just ready. Don't stress

DD was the same way. She wanted nothing to do with it. I kept trying to force it and I just really needed to wait until SHE was ready.
I'm happy to say at 4 yo she is 100% trained.
She was trained during the day around 3-3.5. And about 2 months ago, I stopped pull-ups at night. No accidents. Knock on wood. She is 4 years 1 month.

We are in the same boat! Luca was three in September. We tried potty training once for two hours, he had two accidents and was so upset about it
I put him back in diapers and I figure I'll try again in a few months, he's obviously not ready. I'm looking on the bright side, at least I don't have to worry about finding a bathroom when we are out
He walked at 15 months so maybe there is something to that

Re: Feeling Depressed That My Daughter Who Is Three Years, Three Months Old Is NOT a Bit Potty Trained Yet, HELP!!!
You're not a failure. She'll do it when she's ready. My firstborn wasn't fully trained until she was 3.5, almost 4!
Potty and eating are the two areas of life a child can truly control, so try not to get pulled into a battle. Keep the pressure off and let her decide when she's ready.
Not for everyone, but here's what we did: every night we let DD run around in her room naked. Like all toddlers, she just loved to run around nudies. We had a potty chair in the room and one night she just went and sat. Then it became a nightly routine for her. She's get "nakey time" do pee-pees, then pjs, brush teeth, book, bed.
Training for poop took much longer, but eventually she got it. My biggest piece of advice is to NOT get stressed and pressure her.
Coincidently, my second DD was fully trained MUCH sooner (by 2 years 9 months) following the same method.

Re: Feeling Depressed That My Daughter Who Is Three Years, Three Months Old Is NOT a Bit Potty Trained Yet, HELP!!!
I 100% agree with other posters...she'll go when she's ready. There is not any one trick that will work for all kids. What works for someone else's son or daughter will not always work for another. My oldest was so difficult to get fully trained. He was doing #1 on the potty since he was 3 but absolutely refused to do #2 no matter what we tried...and we tried everything! I am happy say that he just "got it" one day not long after his 4th birthday. I swear I thought he'd go to Kindergarten not trained but he just went when he was 100% ready. It's very frustrating but don't let it get you down.

Re: Feeling Depressed That My Daughter Who Is Three Years, Three Months Old Is NOT a Bit Potty Trained Yet, HELP!!!
My son is the same age (3 in October) and knows what he is supposed to do, but doesn't. We've tried everything people suggested - sticker charts, songs, special prizes for going on the potty, more M&Ms than I care to think about, toys he can only play with after the potty, just wearing undies, wearing nothing at all...nothing has helped him really get that he is supposed to go on the potty every time he needs to go. And he's never put poop in the potty. It's frustrating for sure...but I am certain that when he is ready, he will get it. I just hope he gets it before he starts Pre-K in the 4 year old class.

Re: Feeling Depressed That My Daughter Who Is Three Years, Three Months Old Is NOT a Bit Potty Trained Yet, HELP!!!
Ds turned 3 in sept. I'm sure he is the only one not PT in his class too. I will say other kids have had poop accidents so no child is 100% yet. Ds was also a late walker! We tried pt 4-5 times already and failed miserably (started lastvsummer) He JUST started pee on the potty last week and pooped a couple of times. He woke up from nap hopped out of bed and peed in his undies, so he is not really trained yet. I have to say this has been beyond frustrating!!!! Try waiting another month

Don't feel bad, Emerson is 3y3m and still isn't potty trained. There is no magic age, they will do it when they are ready. I'm following her lead and she's getting it little by little.

My nephew just turned 5 and he only really got the hang of it over the summer... he still wears a pull up to bed though... but his younger sister picked it up a lot quicker... she was 3 in May and she does better than him.

Re: Feeling Depressed That My Daughter Who Is Three Years, Three Months Old Is NOT a Bit Potty Trained Yet, HELP!!!
DD#1 was the same way she didn't train until 3 years 6 months. The ped thought she might have a tiny bladder and it would come in time. She had a TON of accidents and the more she had the less she would sit on the potty. We would start day 1 with only 1-2 accidents, but then 4 on day 2 and then by day 3 we had them all day long. So she would refuse to go. I was told to just let it happen she wouldn't go to college in them.
Well one day she woke up and said I'm ready to get rid of my pull ups today. Day 1 she had 4 accidents (one during her nap). Day 2 100% dry. She has been 100% dry ever since. She ditched her night time pull ups by day 4 or 5 of day training. I think when they are ready they are ready - and we can push them but it doesn't always help. I think DD wanted to do it sooner but she wasn't physically ready.
DD#2 on the other hand trained very quickly on her own accord when she was 25.5-26 months. You just never know. Every child is different.
Does SHE seem interested? How does she do with rewards? I tried for every day there were dry for 1 week - we did 1 small gift (think dollar store book or coloring book) then at the end of the week if they stayed dry all week they got to go to the store and pick out 1 toy to buy. I kept it to under $20. DD#2 got a baby doll - she still shows people the doll and says I got it for getting rid of my diapers.

Re: Feeling Depressed That My Daughter Who Is Three Years, Three Months Old Is NOT a Bit Potty Trained Yet, HELP!!!
My kids were early walkers and they both wanted nothing to do with it until 3.5. It really just clicked one day.
Although#2 is 4.5 and won't bm in toilet. He asks for a diaper at night to do it. At least there aren't accidents.
