Feeling Sad- long vent
I had to spend the night at L&D on Wednesday. This was my third visit there in three months! I am getting sick on ending up there. I feel like everyone else's pregnancies for the most part are fine and mine is too eventful. I am not on bedrest, my baby is totally fine (which is wonderful). I am starting to think it is me...maybe I am just a wimp about pain. Wednesday night I was laying on the couch and the top of my stomach got really tight, I felt SHARP pain. I also felt it in the top of my back. My first thought was heartburn...I took tums, drank water, walked around. But within an hour the pain was so bad that I could not catch my breath. It would not let up. The pain was relentless...I let it go for another hour and I am crying a lot at this point. Dh hands me the phone and says I have to call the doctor. So of course I end up at L & D...I was having strong contractions. They put the monitor on me, even that hurt! Baby was moving a ton, which was adding to the pain. I had a sono, baby weighs 3 lbs. 12 oz and they said I was measuring ahead by 5 days. So that was all good news. Cervix was closed, but they said something was starting to open...not sure...it was 3 am. Dh and I had to stay overnight, I couldn't sleep at all. They gave me tons of IV...it helped. But they have no idea why I was contracting and I wasn't allowed to leave until they were certain it wasn't preterm labor. I took a strep b test and that test to see if I would go into labor early (negative)...thank goodness. Still my doctor talked to me about drugs to advance baby's lungs etc... I was freaked out. My pain stopped and contractions slowed down, so they let me leave around 9 am. However, I have to go back thursday for a follow up. So here I am exhausted, and sad. I feel like I am doing something wrong here and that I have no tolerance for pain. I hate going to the hospital and I don't want to go again until it is time. I am feeling sorry for myself here, I apologize. I am thankful for my healthy baby, I just feel like I am no good at the pregnancy thing! If you read all this I thank you and apologize for the pity party.

I think you did the right thing by calling the dr. No one wants to end up in L & D until the time comes for delivery but being cautious isnt being a wimp. Hang in there and feel better.

Re: Feeling Sad- long vent
i feel your pain... i have been in the hospital twice already for contractions myself... but in the end, i definitely believe that it's better to be safe than sorry. if you're feeling something that's alarming to you, by all means call your doctor and don't feel bad about it.

You're not wimpy - you shouldn't be having contractions at 30 weeks period regardless of how painful (or not) they are. You did the right thing for your health and the health of your baby! I'm sorry you're having such a rough time

Re: Feeling Sad- long vent
I felt similair during my Pregnancy , I was depressed I couldnt have a healthy happy one, but I tried to stop thinking about it as a wonderful event like others did and thought of it as an ends to a mean...my healthy baby b/c I had to face the fact I was not going to have the great PG experience others did no matter how I tried.
Might be wrong of me , but it helped me get through it all.
You will be happy once it over an dthat baby is in yoru arms!

Re: Feeling Sad- long vent
Try and look at it differently first obviously you are not a whimp about pain because you went and something WAS going on. Also take a minute to appreciate how amazing the pregnant body is by giving you signs that something is not right...my friend had her water break at 29 weeks with no real warning and her twins were delivered early--they are great now, but it was a harrowing time. Try to relax, take it easy-if you feel anything immediately call your Dr-the longer your baby stays in there, the better.

Re: Feeling Sad- long vent
Calling the MD when something doesn't feel right is NOT wimpy - it's courageous! I'm sure you were scared of what they might say, but you went anyway and took care of yourself and the baby. Look at the bright side - you got another peak at the baby b/c you got a sonogram!!!

Re: Feeling Sad- long vent
You are definitely not a wimp!!! We all handle pregnancy differently, so don't feel bad if you call your doctor, you did the right thing. Like Melissa said, there WAS something going on.
DH's cousin is having a tough time and ended up in the hospital twice for contractions. They said she was dehydrated, so maybe you should stay very hydrated too........

Re: Feeling Sad- long vent
I don't think your a wimp at all! Maybe all of these hiccups will lead to a very easy labor and delivery for you!
Since I've been fine once the MS passed I'll probably have a 60hour labor!

If you'll have 60, I must be in store for a weeklong delivery!!!!!!

You are allowed to vent and be aggravated. Thank goodness all is well.

Re: Feeling Sad- long vent
You are not a wimp. You need to keep your doctor up to date on what is going on.
I completely know how you are feeling though. I had m/s through the entire pregnancy and when I failed my I hour GD test, I just had a meltdown. I couldn't believe that my diet could possibly be restricted more.
I just came to realize my body does not do well pregnant, I am not lucky that way. But I did have a beautiful, 100% healthy child as the payoff of a bad pregnancy and you will too.
