feeling so helpless
My neighbors have a dog that they only use for hunting. They have a dog house in the yard for him and he has never been inside their home.
I noticed the past few weeks that he was walking funny. In conversation, the neighbor told my mom that he has a heart problem and that he is on medication for it but he won't survive much longer
Here is the thing, now he never goes into his dog house. . . he lays outside and digs these big holes and curls up in them. Walking looks very painful. When anyone comes outside in my yard he whines and cries the whole time and slowly comes to the fence. Brutus used to try to get him to play but now he doesn't even bother.
I cried all night about him last night. I know he is an "outside dog" and some people just have different attitudes towards dogs but I can't imagine letting him suffer like that. And it was CHILLY last night and he still slept outside all night.

Re: feeling so helpless
I would feel the same as you. Every day when I drive to and from work I see this dog sitting all alone in his dog house. No matter what time I pass this house, he is by himself. The fact that some animals have to live outside is unthinkable in itself.. but to then to have one that is injured and ignored is unimaginable. How very sad. I would cry every day if I had to see what you do. How can you have a pet and not want to talk to it, hug it kiss it or snuggle it ? How could you watch your devoted pet be in pain. When I hear or see cases like this , I picture my own dogs face in that situation and it kills me. I would hate to think where my Mia would be if i didn't own her.

Re: feeling so helpless
its terrible how some people treat their pets. I know some people just dont feel this way but I a pet should be a part of your family. I couldnt imagine leaving my dog as an outside dog.
I knew someone whos friend had a pitbull that they kept outside in a cage. In the winter, they keep the dog in the basement. Why even have the pet
