Fertility Monitor - which one?
I'm thinking about buying a fertility monitor if I don't conceive this month. The OPK tests are driving me crazy. In the AM they are dark, in the PM light and the next day it's dark again. I have no idea what's going on!!
So which fertility monitor do you recommend and where is the best place to purchase?
THANKS!!

Re: Fertility Monitor - which one?
The fertility monitor needs to be started at the beginning of a cycle. You program it and it only gives you the first 5 days of your cycle to do that. If you are past day 5, you can purchase the monitor sticks and use them as opks.
If you are interested in doing that, ...let me know. I can help you interpret the sticks, they are a bit different than typical opks but more accurate because they take into account the estradoil level as well as LH.
You can predict what your reading is going to be based on the lines on the stick.

I didn't know that. Thanks. Are the monitors only for women whom have normal cycles? I have PCOS and my cycles are out of wack!!! I haven't had AF since October so i'm wondering if this monitor will work for me.

Here is some information on PCOS :
What is polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)? Polycystic ovary syndrome is a hormone imbalance that interferes with normal ovulation. Women with PCOS do not have normal, regular menstrual cycles. This hormonal imbalance also affects other body systems, such as the metabolic and cardiovascular systems.
Most women with PCOS will have numerous small cysts (less than the size of a pea) on their ovaries at some time. However, some women with PCOS do not have polycystic ovaries but have other symptoms of the syndrome.
What causes PCOS? The cause of PCOS is not fully understood, but genetics may be a factor. You have an increased risk of PCOS if you have a family history of PCOS. If you have the syndrome, your sisters and daughters have a 50% chance of developing PCOS. You may also have an increased risk of PCOS if you have a family history of type 2 diabetes.1

That's a tricky question, if you are ovulating it will track it but it may ask you for tons of sticks which could get expensive. Some women with pcos ovulate, they just ovulate very late in their extra long cycles. The monitor sticks are more reliable than typical opks for pcos women because they measure estradoil and not just LH. Many times women with pcos have false positive LH surges. The reason for this is that the ratio between LH and FSH is not 1:1 in many pcos women.
A lot of women with pcos chart, although it's stressful because a typical untreated pcos chart, usually is very erratic. However, sometimes you can start to notice some steady temps or an unusual dip ...and that can sometimes help you detect ovulation.
When dealing with pcos, it's best to see if you are insulin resistant and if you are metformin works wonders. So many pcos women get pregnant on that med...and it just helps them feel better as well.
Pcos is ...poly cystic ovarian syndrome. Basically, it's a term used for women who don't ovulate on their own. Or who don't ovulate regularly. A lot of women who have pcos have insulin resistance...which is different than elevated glucose levels. You can have normal glucose levels and still be insulin resistant. The extra insulin that is being secreted because of this, causes fat cells to develop. Estrogen is stored in these fat cells and too much estrogen can cause ovulation to 'cease'. Estrogen is what causes cervical mucus. A lot of women with high estrogen levels sometimes see ewcm during infertile periods.
Some women with pcos have cystic ovaries. Tiny little cysts on their ovaries. The reason for this is that the follicules never mature enough, and instead of rupturing and ovulating a mature egg...they turn to tiny cysts and remain in the ovary.
Testosterone levels can also be elevated in women with pcos.
Pcos is very common and I have seen so many women get pregnant when treated. A lot of women who chat on FF, have pcos.
