Fertility Testing

I know this may have been asked millions of times...I have an extremely regular cycle of 27 days, with 2-3 days of really heavy bleeding and then 2 days of light....what are the factors besides not getting PG after a certain amount of time makes your Dr say you need to get tested....basically my question is, if I have regular cycles will my Dr tell me you're fine, there is no reason to test yet???
We're only going into our 3rd month of trying, and I'm 28 with no family history....
Sorry for the verbage...It's Friday Chat Icon Chat Icon

Edited to say, I'm still going on my plan this month, but just wondering....Chat Icon

Re: Fertility Testing

I'm like you. My cycles are 27 or 28 days, like clockwork, with 2 days of heavy bleeding and 2 days of light bleeding. My charts show I'm clearly ovulating, and I easily conceived my first and second, though miscarried with my first.

So, when we embarked on TTC for #2, after about 8 months passed, with 3 months of concerted effort using a fertility monitor and charting, I became concerned. I have a PPO so I made the appointment with my RE directly, and I'm really glad I did. Though we still aren't pregnant, some issues have been detected, like my thyroid levels were off, I have the start of endometriosis, and a lump in my breast.

Re: Fertility Testing

I think the doctor would tell you to keep trying and come back in another six months or so. But if you want to have some testing done - why not tell him/her that you've been trying longer?

Thanks, I remeber you telling me this.

I don't want to do it right now, I'm giving myself a few more months before I go to the Dr's to talk to her, but wanted to see what the general consensus was....
I have a PPO as well, so we'll see what happens, plust my OBGYN works in tandem with a RE which is good I guess...

Re: Fertility Testing

I was thinking the same thing. I have regular cycles, I'm clearly Oing. I was wondering if the start of most Fertility problems began with irregular cycles and lack of O???

Re: Fertility Testing

You could have your DH go for a SA to make sure he is ok. If I am not PG this month, that is my plan of attack when i see my OBGYN on the 8th. We have a PPO & can go directly to a RE but I don't want to start that if it is not necessary. We are entering into our 8 month of trying but my cycles are still not regular. I am clearly ovulating though.

Exactly what I'm thinking..I clearly O and I'm regular, so not sure...
I'd love for my DH to get tested but he's in the school of thought that let's try for a couple of more months and then we'll both get tested...

I would love for mine to get tested too...just so I can put that worry at ease! I feel a little bad asking him though. Well, the only thing I can say is it is still so early for both of us! I'm going on month three and I believe you are too. I guess I will give it atleast 6 monhs and see what happens. I have a gyno appt next month, so I will def. be talking to her too. I really hope this happens for us soon!!!!!!

Re: Fertility Testing

I found out very harshly that regular cycles don't have a lot to do with fertility. I have totally regular cycles and ovulate every month, however my progesterone was always low after O

I actually was wondering about that myself, bc I have the typical symptoms of high Estrogen and low Progesterone...so I might ask my DR about that when I go see her next month...
Thanks!

Me too, except in my case it was that DH had severe male factor infertiltiy so having perfect cycles means nothing in our caseChat Icon

Yup, me three - I have perfect cycles, but for some reason my CM is "hostile" - guess my body is a little angry at DH's little men Chat Icon
