FET question....
We have 3 frozen embies....
"If" we decide to do an FET, how many embies are usually thawed at one time ?
Do they do one at a time, so that you have enough for 3 transfers if all survive the thaw ? Or with 3 would they just thaw all at once and see if any make it ?
Also, how is it decided which one to thaw, if they do it individually?
We are still very undecided "if" we are going to attempt the FET, its a little bit off if we do since my DD is still so young, but trying to think ahead

Re: FET question....
It depends how they freeze them, for me I was told that I had 2 sets of 3 together and 2 sets of 1 together.
That's all I know But I would like to add that I just did an FET. I am pregnant with one. I transferred 4 and was told they needed to thaw 5 to get to 4. hope this helps you.........

Re: FET question....
It depends on how they were frozen.
They are frozen in "straws" - and some places freeze them alone in a straw, others freeze 2 in a straw or 3 or whatever #.
My place freeze just 1 in a straw.
The thawing process is fairly quick and you dont' need to wait for them to fully re-expand before transferring (although you CAN wait to see how they are doing).
If they used vitrification, the thaw rate is good...
Depending on how many you want to transfer (keep in mind that FETs have a lower success rate statistically than most fresh cycles - for example, fresh was 50-60% success for transferring 2, while FET was 40% for transferring 2).
I know that my place charges $1100 for refreezing - so we never want to thaw more than we'd transfer. We just thaw however many we are going to transfer and if they all make it, great. If they don't all make it, we thaw more 1 by 1 on the morning of the transfer.
HTH!

Re: FET question....
RSNY freezes them all indiviudally and I believe they use vitrification. I'm sure you have the choice of how many to transfer.

Thank you for the replies....
Does anyone know how RSOFNY stores them ? Or is it different for every patient ??

Re: FET question....
Sorry, one more question ( if I can explain it)
If they do store them individually....
Will they pick one. see if it survives and if so transfer...If it doesnt pick another etc....All in one cycle ??
Wasn't sure how accurately timed FET's must be or if there is a window to give them a chance to see which embies make it or not, all within one cycle...

Re: FET question....
I think my place stores them in groups of 2. We only transferred 2, so they went to the first group. If they both make it, that's what gets transferred. If only 1 from that group makes it, then they go to the second group. If one from that group makes it, then it's paired w/the embie from the first group. If they both make it, then they refer to the disposition form I signed telling what to do with the remaining embie.
I was confused at first, but they nurse explained it really well.
