Fetal Movement Question
I just started feeling the baby move a week ago. Some days I feel the baby fluttering around a lot but the past 2 days I haven't felt much (if anything) at all. I had my Level II yesterday so I know all is well with the little peanut but I was wondering if it's normal for the fetal movement to be sporadic at this point in the pregnancy. (I am 20 weeks) The baby was totally breech yesterday so maybe that is why I'm not feeling that much although it does explain the shooting pains and pressure I've been getting in my va-jay-jay area.

Re: Fetal Movement Question
I have been feeling the baby since 12 weeks, I am 18 weeks tomorrow. For the last couple of days I hadn't felt anything, and got worried. So last night, I put a flashlight up to my stomach, and got the hardest kick i've ever felt. So I know the baby is ok in there.
Then I did it again, I know, bad mommy.

Re: Fetal Movement Question
I am 22 weeks and their are days I think he is moving furniture or practicing his UFC moves because I feel him all over. Then their are times I dont feel anything.
I was reading that at these weeks of development the baby can sleep 12 - 14 hours a day. So I figure when I dont really feel him using me as a kicking bag he's sleeping.
I am sure all is well.

Dont feel bad, I poke my belly all the time and say "hey baby wake up" DH tells me next time I do that he hopes kicks me real hard

i do the same thing - i scrunch up in bed hoping the baby will kick and "tell" me to move - DH always says "don't be mean to him!"
i am definitely going to try the flashlight trick! thanks janine!

Re: Fetal Movement Question
I press into my abdomen too and my DH yells at me and says I am a mean mommy. But usually it gets some reaction out of the baby so I keep doing it. I am going to try the flashlight trick too tonight when I get home. I'll let you know how it goes.

Re: Fetal Movement Question
Great, now when our children are in therapy when they are 25 years old, the therapist is going to say, "Perhaps your problems stem from your mother blinding you in the womb."
It will be an epidemic!

Re: Fetal Movement Question
I read somewhere that the baby may be more toward the back of the uterus and you just may not feel any movement. But i remember when I was around 20 weeks I didnt feel consistent movement. One day I would feel the baby 2-3 times and another day only once.
Try drinking some OJ , that seems to work for me

Re: Fetal Movement Question
I asked my doctor about this at my 24 week check-up. She said that it was still early on and as long as I felt movement throughout the day, it was fine. It's not until later around 30 weeks that you should feel a certain number of movements an hour.
Also, the babies position affects how well you can feel the movements. Just because you don't feel them doesn't mean they're not happening, you know?
But stressful, isn't it?

Yep, they can see the light through your belly, and they usually kick away from it.

Re: Fetal Movement Question
Hey girls, this is a VERY funny thread, because my DH says the same thing, stop hurting my baby, but he's DEAD serious and leaves the room saying "I can't watch you do that". I think in his mind the baby is taking up my WHOOOOOLE belly so anywhere I poke is 'hurting' I keep telling him to start reading some of the books lying around, his grasp on biology is frightening
Oh, and if you're not feeling a LOT of movement, that's ok, but you could have your placenta in an anterior position (at the front of your uterus) like me, which makes it a bit harder to feel the kicks!

I know, but after the first good kick, I kept doing it, and DH said, "How long are you going to do that for?" I sat there for about 5 minutes keeping myself entertained.

It's harmless fun!! Men don't understand our need to feel the baby!!! Besides, when he gets mad at me for poking I say, "it's okay....the baby is well cushioned in there, just go check the baby books if you don't believe me". He usually gets over it then. Have to run.........flashlight time!!!!!
