fever running nose/conjestion in the humid/hot days of summer.
my boy has a cold.
worse, he has MY COLD. ( bad mommy)
I've been feeling craptastic since Saturday but I thought I was just run down. then the achy, snotty nose, headache sinus thing started.
then last night at dinner, I saw his nose running . after that, it was all down hill. he woke up at 11 pm b/c he couldn't breathe and it took him some time to figure out he could do it from his mouth. then he was off and on all night...so needless to say I am sick AND I am BONE DOG TIRED.
but I am unimportant.
help me with him.
we DON'T have A/C and up til today, I was bathing him a few times to cool him off and get the humid stickiness off his skin since he is also TEETHING and cutting his two (or 4...I think I saw two more) top teeth.
but he developed a fever during the night (102.5 at the height) and I am afraid to give him his refreshing baths.
should I get an A/C? would keeping the air a constant cool temp help? I feel like I breathe much better and have less drip in controlled air so I was thinking that could help.
and if his fever breaks completely, would you bathe him?
I am at work now...I left him in the capable (and unsick) hands of my MIL but I plan to leave early.
any tips for handling a summer cold with a teething 8 month old are EXTREMELY appreciated.
thanks.
update:
I am taking him to the ped. his fever went back up to 103 when the tylenol wore off.
dh is bringing down our a/c and our cool mist humidifier.
my poor little gorgeous.
thanks for your help!!!!

For now, the baths will help keep his fever down (not COLD, just not hot either).
I don't know, I know we all survived without AC so its not NECESSARY but I know as someone with allergies, that I can't breathe without AC. . . so that is up to you.
I hope you all feel better soon!
And, no I am not a parent yet but I am still answering so there LOL

Ugh! Teething and a cold for a little one bl0ws! I would continue the baths if you are not going to get an AC. But, I could not be without an AC in this heat/humidity and I think it would make DC the most comfortable. Hope you both feel better!

As long as they're lukewarm baths, I think that is fine.
Also the AC is a personal decision but it has been stifling these last few days. The good news is I think today is supposed to be the last of this extreme heat/humidity. It will get a little more comfortable the next few days but rest assured this weather will be back soon .
Hope you both feel better soon! Summer colds are the WORST!

Why wouldn't you bathe him if he didn't have a fever?
Yep i'd give him a tepid bath with a fever, and of course after to keep him cool, since the air's so hot these days.
A/C can actually make them worse, the cold dry air will dry him out too much..

I would def give him a luke warm bath.. it will help the fever and make him feel better. I can't live without AC and DS runs HOT!!! But that's up to you...I given anyone credit who can go without ac!!
Of course..saline drops to keep him from drying up and keep it flowing out instead of back into his ears. Feel Better Luce!!

I would bathe him to cool him off. Today is supposed to be hot! Definitely saline drops to keep the nose running- clear him out. As far as AC, I find that AC makes DD MORE congested. Feel better Luce!

Try the "little noses decongestant drops". They work nicely for Liam who is king of colds. An AC would be nice but, the heat is supposed to break today.

Re: fever running nose/conjestion in the humid/hot days of summer.
thanks everyone.
I am not against bathing him..I just wasn't sure which is why I asked.
we actually HAVE an a/c but it's in storage at our upstate house. we just never brought it down. dh is working in Jersey today so he's going to drive up to the house and get it. (besides saving us some money, it will save me the trouble of having to strap it to my back and carry it home )
he just HATES me going anywhere near his nose or his mouth. I had to wait until he fell back asleep to suction some of it out. now, it's just rolling down his face

Re: fever running nose/conjestion in the humid/hot days of summer.
I know its already massively humid but I would run a cool mist humidifier. The cool water vapor might help the room feel more comfy.
I would also run it and add a few drops of eucalyptus essential oil. Smells like vapo rub, its all natural and worked WONDERS for my DD when she was sick. She was sleeping through the night.
I hope he feels better.

I know you said he doesn't like you near his nose, but, even if you just do the drops or even the spray it will help it "drip out".
Do you have a fan you can put in his room? Of course, not directly on him, but maybe cool down his room a bit. We have CAC and in DDs room I only have the vent open about 1/4 of the way..gets to cold in her room.
I'd also continue with baths.
Hope he feels better soon.

Re: fever running nose/conjestion in the humid/hot days of summer.
Ok, what I do for colds is def. the cool mist humidifier. I also give hot baths (or take them in the shower with me) to help loosen everything up.
If he is running a temp I would personally just take a warm washcloth and wash him down. I'm scarred since reading about a few babies with fevers who had febrile seizures after being put in a bath. I personally stay far away from it with fevers and just stick to the washcloth to cool them down. It seems to do the trick.
You can also alternate Tylenol/Motrin for the fever, every two hours.
Hope Luce (and Mommy) feel better soon!
Oh, and put that AC on! I'm dying over here with my CAC cranking!
