I believe that is what he said I had and they wanted to biopsy it or they said my doctor might send me to a breast surgeon. When I asked if I could just come back in 6 months to recheck the doctor said no. Has anyone experienced this? I thought, after searching through the internet, you could do a wait approach.

TIA

I have no experience with that, but if there's a chance it could be anything serious, I'd rather deal with it sooner than later. If you're not comfortable with the course of action your doctor has suggested, though, you should definitely get a second opinion.

I hope that it turns out to be nothing serious!

I had one removed 4 years ago. Fibroadenoma is a benign fibro-cystic tumor. The only way to accurately say if something is benign is to have a biopsy. I think it's great that your Dr. is being proactive and not just waiting to see what happens.

I first felt a lump in the shower, it was the week before my period so I thought it could be that. It was still there after and I was due for a check up anyway, I made sure to mention it when I booked my appointment. My Dr. felt the tumor and said she didn't think it was anything but sent me for ultrasound to make sure. The ultrasound tech and radiologist didn't think it was cancer but did a biopsy just to make sure. I was happy they did, I don't believe that, "I don't think it is" is a definitive diagnosis. I had a needle core biopsy, not pleasant, but not unbearable. My test results came back fine but I opted for surgery. My tumor was 2.5 cm (about 1 in by 1 in), which is pretty large. Fibroadenomas can grown with hormone changes, (pregnancy, etc.) so I opted for a minor surgery now vs. a big surgery later. I had my surgery done at NYU and was very happy with the treatment I received there.

I had one removed 2years ago. When they found it they did a biopsy, then we did a wait and see. But it was stable for about 10 years before it grew. We biopsied again. I decided to remove bc I didn't want the stress.

IMO if you have have one I would 100% see a breast surgeon. They will discuss waiting or removal based on all the info. But regardless see one so you have an expert following it, even if you don't want it removed.

Re: Fibroadenoma at the age of 42-update

My doctor just called and said have to have a biopsy ASAP. Said won't know for sure what it is until then.

Good luck! I hope the biopsy shows that it's nothing to be concerned about.
