Final closing costs and the big check...
How long before closing did you know how much to make the check out for?
We close in 48 hours and the bank hasn't given us the amount yet. I'd like to get the cashier's check taken care of today or tomorrow. We literally cannot squeeze one more thing, like going to the bank for the check, in the morning of the closing.

You should know today or tomorrow so you can get a bank check for the amounts. I know what a pain it could be!

If I remember correctly- we closed on a Monday, and found out the amount the Friday before. I had to run to the bank on Saturday to get the check

I didn't even need a bank check for the remaining amount at closing...they took my check. I have no idea why.

We are closing in 48 hours also - and are still waiting. My lawyer said I should know the day before..... she said you will most likely be running around in the morning b4 closing....

My attorney estimated the costs the night before but we were told the exact amount that morning.

They gave me the amount the day before- they estimated a little high so I got a check back at closing for almost 1,000- I totally remember being so stressed out about getting "the check" it stressed me so much- but it was a piece of cake I did it on my lunch break.

I dont think we found out in advance....
We closed at the bank where all our accounts were so we just walked to the window during closing.
This was the case both times we bought homes.

Why not? If they don't get you the final numbers until that morning, they will simply have to wait for you at the closing table. It's as simple as that, which is why I never stress over things like this.
I wouldn't worry.

We found out just a few hours before closing and they estimated high, so we also got a check back.
I think it depends on the bank and the attorneys as to whether or not you need bank checks or personal checks.
I agree with the previous posters though - they will gladly wait for you to show up with the check!

Same here. We actually waited outside the bank for the phone call of how much the costs would be, got check and went straight to closing.

Good point. Not like they can cancel the whole transaction if we are late!
We need to drive out to LI, do the walk-through, go to the bank (maybe), then drive to the closing location.. That's a lot to do all before 10am. But if we are late, we're late.
Oh these first time homebuyer jitters....

i didnt get a call from my lawyer until 5pm the day before. I had to wake up earlier and get to the bank as they opened to get my checks in time.

We found out literally 2 hours before the closing. It was totally stressful not knowing but like everyone said, they can't proceed without you!
