Finding out the gender/sono Q
When do people usually find out the gender? I see that some people find out at 14 or 16 weeks. My OB does an ultrascreen around 12 and then told me the next sonogram isn't until 20 weeks. In between I'd only see him once at 16 weeks for a doppler w/no sono. Do other doctors see patients at 14 weeks also and/or do sonos at 14 and 16? Do you just request one? My ob doesn't like to do too many sonos. I was able to wait until 20,....but after reading all the posts about people finding out sooner it makes me impatient!!!! TIA

Re: Finding out the gender/sono Q
everyone's doctors are different... i got a sono at 12w & wasnt suppossed to get another one until the second half of my genetic scan at 17w, however i was in the hospital at 15w and had a follow up visit with my OB at 16w & he wanted to do a sono as part of the follow up visit & i found out then
i know a lot of girls say their doctors wont say anything about the gender until the level II -- so it really does depend on your doctor's office

Re: Finding out the gender/sono Q
Most of us who go at 16wks for a sono our seeing a High Risk Obgyn or have a complication the Dr wants to check up on.
Most obgyn's will only do a sono at 12 wks and then next 20 wks. You could ask your Dr if you wanted but typically they do not like to do extra sono's if not needed. It doesnt hurt to ask, it def is nice to see you LO a little more frequently.
Goodluck!

Re: Finding out the gender/sono Q
My OB did my sonos at 12 weeks and 20 weeks. At my 16 week appt, it was just the doppler. Barring any complications, I won't have another sono until my growth sono around 32 weeks.

My Dr. does exactly the same as your Dr. I have a few extra visits because my placenta is in a bad place but I am not getting extra sonos.

My Dr is the same way. I just couldnt wait any longer so at 16w3d I paid to have a 4D sono done where they told us the gender. Plus I didnt want to wait that long to see the LO!

Re: Finding out the gender/sono Q
My DR gives me a sono every single time I go (I know, crazy) but that's how he likes to operate. I don't really mind though because I love to see the baby everytime i am there. I am a worry wart by nature so I don't knwo if I could go months without seeing the babe!
