Finger Tattoos?
Yea or nea in a professional environment? For example, as a doctor's receptionist? Obviously, these are not easily covered.

Re: Finger Tattoos?
Nay. I feel like any visible tattoo in any professional environment is not really appropriate.
I really wanted a wrist tattoo, but being that I cant always cover it easily, I opted not to since I work in an office.

Finger Tattoos?
I manage a medical practice, and while I wouldn't necessarily rule out a potential employee for having visible finger tattoos, it would lower the likelihood of them being hired. Tattoos that are easily covered are a different story - even I have 2 in areas that are easily covered.

Re: Finger Tattoos?
Yeah negative.
This is why my boyfriend put his tattoos on his upper arms instead of his forearms which is really where he wanted them.
And this is why he chose his calf too -- so he could cover it at work with pants.
ETA - he's a cop so in the summer he has to wear short sleeves and can't really cover them unless he wears arm stockings lol so that's why. Just personally he didn't want to be working with the public as a public servant and have that visible. Especially because one of his tattoos contains his children's names.

Finger Tattoos?
I have a big one on my forearm. While I can cover it when needed it is generally showing.
I don't think I would get one where it was not able to be covered.

Finger Tattoos?
Yay. I see no issue with them. To me it is in no way reflective on the person working, or how the do the job.

Nay. If you can cover them, I don't care if they're there. That's not going to work on your hands though.

Re: Finger Tattoos?
Huge nay. I would not be comfortable with anyone that had finger tats. To me they look like you are in a gang or went to jail. I am totally fine with someone having an upper arm or not easily visible in work clothing tat.

Re: Finger Tattoos?
Not in a corporate setting. I personally don't like finger tattoos. For some reason they look messy.

Finger Tattoos?
I work as a professional and have 2- one in my ankle easily covered and one on my ring finger under my wedding bands. I find it offensive people would judge based on a tattoo. I have my wedding date under my ring and for me I would never want to work in a place no matter how good the job is if someone judged me on something that means the world to me. And not for nothing I work in a very very large organization 5000+ employees, work in a clinical/ administrative position and was employee of the year for 2014. It is absolutely no reflection and me and my work ethic or the type of person I am. Never judge a book by its cover.
And to the person who would judge me to think it looks like I went for jail just remember that I care for adults with developmental disabilities and made a difference in hundreds of lives... And do a job most wouldn't because of the intensity. I'm sure the families I have helped over the years think of me as a good person- not a jail bird. Hope you never need someone's help that has a finger tattoo

but you said yourself both of your tatoos are easily covered. I don't have any, I'm not really a fan - but I think if you're going to be in a professional environment, you have to get something you can cover up. Necks, wrists, hands, feet (for a woman) ehhhhh - I'd think twice. I wouldn't base a hiring decision on it - but, right or wrong visable tatoos DO take away from a polished and 'professiona' APPEARANCE

Re: Finger Tattoos?
tattoos are becoming more professionally acceptable. i see nothing wrong with a finger tattoo. a tattoo is not reflective of the person who has it.

I agree that finger tats look unprofessional. Having a small one under a wedding ring might be alright, but anything larger on the fingers of a job applicant would make me wonder about the person's judgement.

I think it really depends on the kind of tattoo on the hand - if it is a ring finger tattoo, that's relatively small, and most of the time unnoticeable. I think what some might have been thinking of are those tattoos on the main part of the finger, like the guy from that chopper show where it says "pay up" or something like that, where they are very large and bold... that does have a negative stigma. Right or wrong, that's the way many people view it. But something along the lines of what you have, is very very different.

No one with 1/2 a brain would ever make a comment. It would be totally inappropriate. I also think your tatoo looks like a ring ..correct? it's a lot different from a blaring tatoo .......also, as you said, yours means everything to you and I'm sure you didn't think twice about getting it -
I work in a totally stuffy, formal office and come 'summer casual' you see A LOT of tatoos b/c people are wearing sleeveless, or dresses, sandals etc - No one is getting fired for it - BUT, if the OP is on the fence about putting a tatoo on their hands and even thinking they MIGHT be uncomfortable with it - I'd find another place for it. It's one thing to get it, regret it and be able to cover it up .......but if you get it, and regret it, if it's on your hands you're never escaping it

Human service fields tend to much more liberal in their acceptance of body art, tats, piercings, self-expression in general. Working in the field myself I don't bat an eyelash at those things but the corporate world is much different. An ex was a tattoo artist and said people often came in specifically saying they would need the ability to cover for work. So while I don't care or think it is unprofessional, I do understand other people's POV on it. A doctor's office can go either way but generally speaking I think they want their front desk staff to give a certain impression that finger tats *may* not deliver.

I work for a large company in their corporate office and also in their stores. I have a wrist tattoo and the tops of both feet tattoo'd, if my clothes or shoes happen to cover them that day then they do, but I never purposely cover them for either of the jobs, nor have I ever been asked to cover them

Re: Finger Tattoos?
I'm a YAY, but my DH has our wedding date on his ring finger that is usually covered by his wedding band. I do have to laugh at the PP that said finger tattoos remind her of people in jail or a gang, as I remember some lady asking my DH that, it's seriously hilarious. Ive been around a lot of gang members and people in jail from a previous job, face tattoos are what are more prone to those individuals, not so much finger tats lol.
Oh and my DH works at a very well known pharma company and is a global manager for the north east and Amia, and most people ask him to see his other tattoos lol, he has yet to feel discriminated because of them.

Hope you never need someone's help that has a finger tattoo so threatening someone is ok . Gotcha. She asked if it was professional, IMHO, a non easily coverable tat is unprofessional. You can be phenomenal at what you do, but in a white collar office environment it is frowned upon. I did not say don't get one at all, just be mindful of its placement, you can hide yours, so you were mindful of its placement. I never said you were a nice or not nice person for having a finger tat. But the only kind I have ever seen is the ones on the knuckles. She asked for opinions and I am sure I am not alone in mine as evidenced by the responses. And there are other people who are fine with it. No need to be so rude to me.
