First and last egg hunt
We went to the Suffolk County Farm’s Egg Hunt today, against my better judgement, because I’ve heard how crazy these things can be. My kid got 0 eggs. There were children walking out with small bags full of like 10-12. They had it split into age groups, and had two teenagers managing our area, no farm employees. They had to manage all of these people plus deal with the aftermath of angry parents. DS walked away fairly disappointed and I was upset for him. So never again.

Re: First and last egg hunt
This happened to us a bunch of times. The worst part were the parents scrambling to get their kids their 17th egg and proud of it. Now IF we go to an egg hunt I usually take a stash of my own eggs so I can have some for them to “find” if need be. I’m sorry this happened, it’s really disappointing.

He’s 6. They split it up by ages, but there were older kids and parents who were also hunting for eggs.

Re: First and last egg hunt
That is horrible! I'm hoping to find an egg hunt for tomorrow since we haven't done any this year. It's usually pretty chaotic and eggs are gone in a flash, but the places we've gone always put out tons of eggs (some tossed extra right in front of the smaller kids while it was going on). My favorite egg hunt was at a nature conservancy. Eggs were scattered around and children were allowed to pick up a certain number that they traded in at the end for prizes. Much calmer than everyone running into a field at once.

First and last egg hunt
I hate public egg hunts for this very reason. Although, we went to one at bounce u today and it was VERY cute. There were plenty of eggs for all, and the parents were well behaved. But there weren't many kids, maybe 15, and the kids were are all toddler aged.

Re: First and last egg hunt
Omg! We were there too and in the 3-4 age group. My son was left standing there with nothing! He didn't understand what happened. Older siblings literally cleared it in a matter of seconds! I have also never seen a line that long to get in! We go there a lot since my dd was a baby, but it's starting to get way too big. I just finished telling dh that I'm done going there for special events.

Re: First and last egg hunt
I’m with you! We did it once when my oldest was a baby. We had to ask a kid to give her an egg, which she did but we should have not had to ask. Never again.

I think every single egg hunt is like this. It's unfortunate, but there are always way too many people, and not enough eggs!

Uggh, that stinks. I thought about going to that one and then I saw that over 3k people were "interested" on fb and I thought no way. I love the farm for small events, the classes, regular days but their big events are crazy. I feel bad for those 4h kids although I'm sure they raked in a ton of $$$ so I guess that's good.

We skip our town Egg hunt for the same reason. It’s over in seconds and you most likely won’t get an egg.
My husband is a member of the Elks so we do a small egg hunt there.

Wow, that's terrible! We were going to go to that, but ended up skipping it because of the rain. I felt bad about not going, but now I'm glad we didn't and will not bother in the future. What are some parents thinking that they would let their kids grab so many eggs while other kids have none!?!?

And that’s exactly why I’ll never bring my kids to those events. Just too chaotic and the older kids take everything. We do an egg hunt at home and they can’t wait for it. They’re not missing out on anything.

Yep. People are aholes. Last year we went to one where you signed up prior and each child got to pick up an allotted number of eggs. It was perfect and all kids left happy. My dd’s School did one and it was the same. 12 eggs for each child.

Ditto. Not to mention I have zero patience for group events like that and crowds gathered of any kind for any reason. My distaste for society runs deep .

Re: First and last egg hunt
I took my son to the Benners farm one a few years ago and it was the same thing. It was the toddler edition of the Hunger Games. The freakin parents were out of control. I’ll never do it again.

First and last egg hunt
We skipped ours too, this year because of the same reasons! I put them in the 3-4 year old hunt last year, and I couldn't believe how many older siblings and parents went out to hoard eggs. Why don't we ever hear rules like, : no parents on the field. Also, why don't parents who frequent these and other mb's stop this asshole behavior?

First and last egg hunt
We went to one a few years ago. It was stated clearly 5 EGGS PER CHILD. It was amazing how many parents were grabbing handfuls of eggs. Like, do you really want a plastic ring or 4 jelly beans that badly?!?!? My favorite family was the parents of INFANT twins that rolled out with the bottom of their stroller filled to the brim with eggs. Unreal.

We just do our own for this very reason; too chaotic and not worth the hassle. I'll gladly stuff my own plastic eggs and let my kids run free in the yard.

Re: First and last egg hunt
We went to one at Sunken Meadow one year and never did a mass egg hunt again. My kids left with nothing. Same thing, separated by age groups, parents who were NOT SUPPOSED to, were actually running into the area to grab eggs for their kids and put them in their basket before other little kids could get to them. There was clearly a NO PARENT RULE posted. Someone (a parent) actually swooped in and grabbed one that my (at the time) 3 year old DS was CLEARLY reaching for.....I almost lost my sh!t. He left it tears, I was pissed....never again.
